going to be looking at 04 and 05 Honda Sport tomorrow. Apart from the general, what else should I look for condition wise. Honda have a reputation for solid cars and just want feedback on what people who or have owned them think/opinions

any advice on Honda S-types would be good.

S-types are Jags! :D

Also the Honda's are good cars, v reliable and quick enough. However i think that they just look....boring! Look nothing more than your bog standard 1.6 civic? (i assume you are talking about the civic type-s?)

Basically i think they're just a Type R with slightly less punch and for old people!

I'm going to assume you are talking about the Civic Type-S.

Honda don't have a reputation for building solid cars - they have a reputation for building reliable cars. There is a key difference. A Honda will often have squeeks and rattles and cheap plastics but will rarely, if ever, break down. a VW will have quality plastics and not a single rattle but may well break down. So, don't go expecting German quality in a Honda Civic.

Moving on...

Although a fundamentally good car which ticks all the boxes a reliable 2 litre hatchback ought to - it's reliable, reasonably economical, the engine is pretty decent, performance is willing and the spec level is acceptable, the Type-S suffers from being irritatingly over-rated and therefore carries a price premium over its rivals. An 05 plate Type S is still worth about 10 grand, and 10 grand is too much money for a car of this type and age.

IMHO obviously.
 
my bad. Civic Type-S. Its been a long day! Its not for me, i'm helping an close relative whos just passed and I'm helping him look for a car. Just want him to choose a nice car that he will appreciate now and few years more along the lines and help him from my experience. His heart is set on the Type-S so going with him to check out a few etc.

I don't have much knowledge on Honda's but keep the advice on Honda's coming.
 
whats the difference between 1.6i VTECH and 1.6 VTECH? is it just the interior?

and why is there only an £245 difference between a car with same spec that has done an extra 16000 miles? This is from an offical used car Honda dealership.

There is no 1.6 non 'i'. They are all the same, 1.6i VTEC. The interior will differ from car to car to some extent, depending on whether it's and SE or an executive etc.

The Type S is also not a 1.6. It's a 2.0, and is only available with 5 doors. The sport is the Type R lookalike, and has 3 doors, but is slower than the Type S, which is in turn slower than the Type R. Dealers, aswell as private sellers often get confused between the Type S and Sport, even though they're badged differently, and it's blatantly obvious which is which. The 1.6i VTEC sport has 108bhp, as do ALL the Civics with the 1.6i engine. The Type S has 157bhp, and is commensurately faster with it.

d'uh, I did it again. I meant the Civic Sport. sorry guys my bad again. thanks Danza, thats made it clearer. if its no different, why has Honda listed some civics as 1.6 and 16i's?

I'm an VAG guy. :P whats the BHP of an type R out of interest?

It will be Honda 1.6 Sport, which we will be looking at. Got there in the end. lol

If a garage has it listed as just a 1.6, well, it's actually a 1.6i anyway. I can't find anything on a 1.6 non 'i' at all. All the same engine.

The Type R has 197bhp.
 
I had one a few years ago, a sheep in wolfs clothing springs to mind. Handling is ok, they're pretty economical (start stop traffic all the way to Bournemouth one year with A/C on and still got 36mpg), seemed pretty solid and reliable but had really nasty plastics on the interior which scratched very easily.

Not much to say about the car really, it's just your typical 1.6 hatchback with a pretty frock on. Hold up well in multiple roll accidents though :p
 
I currently have a Civic Sport, bought it back in May and am really enjoying it, as said above its pretty economical, looks good, sounds good, it doesn't really lack power unless you're obviously used to more powerful cars, but for what it is, its a great car, i really can't fault it, aside from the 1 1/2 turn full lock which means quite an "oil tankerish" turning circle.

What colour is the one you're going to see? :D
 
I got one about a year and a half ago. Its my first car so I think its great.

Wanted a Type R but since I was only 19 when I bought it the insurance would have been £2k.

I found the car to be more than fast enough when I first got it, coming from a 1 litre, but I'm finding it pretty slow these days. I get about 40 mpg but I sit at 70 on the motorway for 2 hours a day. The ride is rock hard though.

I still look at Type R's and wish I'd waited or just gone ahead and got one but when I think about it logically the savings I'm making are better. Plus at 19 I probably would have killed myself in a Type R ;)
 
the dealership i'm going to today, has 4 in stock. 2 reds, 1 blue and 1 black. One of the red ones has done just under 10k and is 04. The one i like is the black one and it has nicer wheels but has done 30k and is 05 and slightly more money.
 
Nice one, the red and black prob a blt go better with the interior, as much as i love the look on the Blue civics the red/Black interior inside that looks a tad gory :(

Low mileage does seem quite common with these models, i picked up my 54 plate with 14.1k on the clock

Will be test driving some today but this car is going to last at least 5 years so maybe the lower mileage one is better?

anything to else to look for within the car etc?

Oh yes they do. You'd be suprised. They don't drive them like they ought to but they certainly buy them. Besides, its a 2 litre Civic, the only 2 litre Civic, and it's hardly a Type-R.

There is a lady in her 70's around here with a brand new Fiat Panda 100HP. What on earth it offers her over a regular model I don't know, but she's got one.

fair enough but thats a panda. not a civic sport. I'm talking about 1.6 civic sport version not the type S 2 lit.
