6 week VISTA installation nightmare!

Give Elevon and Scratch a lightsabre!

Got memtest running on Friday evening (lost the disc on tube on Thursday!) and left running for 45hrs - 80 passes and 650 000+ errors. Seems the Vista memory diagnostic is a little tame (as this passed).

Ran for 12hrs with each stick, with similar results - 1 or 2 passes, and 1000's of errors.

Not sure what this means (other than knackered RAM) as ran the same disk on a work PC on Friday which was a sea of blue and passed.

I bought all the components back at the end of May, but haven't had the system running yet (family commitments etc) and have never had to return stuff. The RAM box is currently a moneybox for my 2 yr old! Where do I go?

I had to deal with Crucial support twice, first time I was not sure about my ram so sent it to them for testing ,I was getting BSOD,crashes in XP,and eventually could not even install XP ,anyway that time Crucial tested the ram and said ram was ok but sent me a new replacement anyway, turned out to be a faulty CPU in my PC.

Second time it was a bad stick of Crucial ram,I had lost my invoice when I spoke to them over the phone but lucky they had my details on their system even after 3 years and sent me a replacement within a week.

Crucial CS support is excellent.

I'd imagine it went something like this:

Remove CPU > Inspect CPU > Find crack > Growl and stamp feet > Buy new CPU > Problem solved :D

Actually not far wrong. I decided (at the stage when everything was going funny) that I would rebuild the entire lot.

So I ripped it all out cleaned the CPU from Arctic Silver (so I could apply a nice new coat on there) and thought it didn't look right. Under closer examination there was nice crack on there.

Cost me best part of £120 to replace as well. At the time I was gutted as it was cash for a new graphics card. Ah well, you live and learn.

Though to test you could just get a CPU stress tester and if it crashes on that then you probably have found the problem.

Got new RAM on Friday, installed it and Vista no problems (Crucial forgot to give me the RMA number 1st time round, and were on training 1st time I tried to contact them, but customer support was on the whole better than most organisations). Thanks for all the help.

Thomas the tank engine playing well now, Bob's been forgotten.

Can't get TDU or NFSC to install, stops around 50% and hangs. Any ideas? Got PF (Pacific Fighters) on though and looks great. Will try Far Cry after work.

Tried going to compatibility tab and running in Admin mode and XP compatiblity mode by right clicking and selecting properties from the exe. of the game.
