I've managed to snap one of the tuning knobs on the headstock of my guitar... by dropping it on a Tube platform. Not a great loss as it's got cheapy plastic knobs (Epiphone Les Paul). But I'd still like to source a spare knob without having to replace the whole set of machine-heads - which seems pointless. I presume, since the pin is machined, that I can slot a new one on without much difficulty.

Looking to match the current style (like this), though I'm not massively bothered. Any recommendation where I can get one (or a set) online?

I've bought several things from these guys, their site looks poo but they are trustworthy and include free delivery:)

edit-sorry, you only want one, I'd give them a ring anyway, see what they can do, unless it's literally just the plastic knob, in which case they do they but in green...ish

I can vouch for this website. I always forget about it until i come upon it again by accident. The service from that website is very good, and their dispatch/delivery times are very very fast.

Think it's time to bookmark it for once!

Oh.Dear.

I guess I overlooked that. Not sure how, but once I realised the intonation was all off I gathered something more sinister was up. Not going to get it repaired as I can't see it being economical.

It's about time I got a proper grown-up guitar anyway :D. Going to try out some Fender American Deluxes next week - still torn between a Tele and a Strat, but likely to go for a Strat depending on how well the pickup switching feels. Shame I can't make use of my current pickups as they're a perfect (for me) pair of Seymour Duncan '59 and a Jazz neck.

Well we had a good decade together. We had our ups and downs, but unfortunately down is never good for a guitar. I'll miss it.

Oh, while I'm here, anyone want a pair of replacement tuning knobs?!

Crap...whatever you do, don't discard anything, I'm currently looking into making a guitar from random bits and bobs;)

Anything thats going spare. I'lll take off your hands:D

Oh and what did you do to that? part of the drop?

Also, having recently bought a US Strat I can't see why anyone wouldn't want one, It's a faultless guitar, I love mine to pieces.

That was from the same time - dropping it on its side from only about a foot or so. It was in a padded gig-bag loaded with some other kit, so I imagine the extra weight plus the body must have been too much.

Don't know if there'll be anything spare as I'm thinking of making bit of a Frankenstein's monster too - maybe fit a telecaster neck, split the humbuckers and shove in a fuzz circuit or two :D.

You wont be able to fit a telecaster neck due to a telecaster having a 25.25 inch scale length and a les paul having a 24.75 inch.

To do it you would have to move the bridge as well or seriously alter the neck pocket.

I'm sure you'll be able to buy a replacement epiphone les paul neck from somewhere with a scale length of 24.75 inch.

Check out the Jimmie Vaughan Tex Mex strat. Often overlooked because it's built in mexico, but it's mostly US parts and very high quality, especially for the price. Has some great features too, like the slight "v" shaped neck. Nice and playable.
Also, due to the price (just over half an American Deluxe), you can upgrade the pickups if you don't like his fairly hot single coil signature pickups, with plenty of money to spare.

Played a few and love them. Just need to get some money for one. Wanting too much atm..

Strats > Teles :D

Thanks for the info as its useful to know, wouldn't really have thought to consider scale length. It was just an afterthought though; new guitar's the priority :).

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll see if I there's one I can try out as it indeed looks like a great guitar for the price. Hot pickups are good. One of the reasons I was interested in the deluxe was because of the S1-switching, allowing for a bit more juice out of the single coils. Though I've not tried one yet, so reserving judgement.

Strats > Teles :D
Ooo, this is the dilemma I have. I love them equally as much. It'll all come down to trying them out. Every time I think a Tele would be perfect for the sort of music I play and the fact I love its looks, the Strat wins me back simply with the sound of its neck pickup and a little touch of overdrive.
