GF has had her hotmail account hacked, what are the chances, if any, of getting it back?

Its got some emails we need thats all and will be slightly annoyed if we cant get them back :(

First step would be to try reset your password using your secret question. Just use the usual "forgot password" link on the login pages.

Next step would be to contact MSN. You will have to prove that it is in fact your account somehow, and hopefully they will be able to realise that the password has been changed, etc and eventually somehow give your account back to you. It's probably a long step, but I'm sure you'll get it back.

If you do manage to successfully retrieve your account, change your passwords, security questions, etc to something new.

Good luck..

yeah tried to forgot password thing and the question isnt even the same one as she set it as

already contacted MSN telling them

its obviously someone she knows though to be able to answer secret questions and postal code etc

You can change the secret question once you are loged into the account, hence why hotmail has crap security, no support and is free!

Which makes it even sadder, why hack accounts when you can make as many as you like for free :(. Some people are sad ********

well we have changed everything in paypal/ebay and anything else we can think of that had that email on them...think everything will be fine, only thing now is there is every single email me and the gf have ever sent each other in it...i delete my sent ones so only have what ive sent...just sentimental things really but still a pain :(

If shes got paypal or any other important sites signed up to her email address she might wanna chage the registed email in them ASAP! this is how i got scamed on pay pal.

Oh you have, well done.

I had the same happen to my account afew years back - if you contact the hotmail people you should be able to get your account back if your gf can provide detailed info on roughly how many contacts she has, who they were etc. Good luck with it! :) It's a shame there are people who do things like hacking other peoples accounts.

I got my hacked Hotmail account back. At first they said no but I emailed them again and pleaded with them. It terrible to lose your main email account

The lesson I learnt

* DONT USE HOTMAIL FOR ANYTHING IMPORTANT
* DONT TRUST ANY FORUM WITH SECURE DETAILS
* DONT 100% TRUST ANYTHING ON THE INTERNET
* DONT USE HOTMAIL or any other free webmail addresses as your secondary email as if the main one get hacked so can all your others.
* DONT buy anything off ebay unless your prepared to lose that money if someone decides to rip you off. ebay and paypal dont care.*

Last point is off topic but 1 of my golden rules.

Hotmail isn't free no more is it? Well for new accounts. Went on there to get a separate email address for something the other day and the free ones expire after 120 days, itts £15 a year otherwise.

just had an email form the account saying "what is it worth to me to give it you back" but was written in pretty bad english LOL

awaiting a reply from the MSN support people

Don't reply to any of the emails the hacker sends you, it only gives him satisfaction.

Staff should give the account back to you if you can remember enough details that WERE on the accoun (cv code, address, phone numbers and so on)

A few months ago you were able to hack Hotmail accounts so easily, simply because of hotmail staff stupidity.

he can have all the satisfcation he wants, hes a sad loser, he needs some lol

whats a cv number??

the gf knows who she had in her address book, what sub folders she had for storing different emails, obviously the original details of address etc

My paypal account and email got hacked recently and someone had transferred about £1,000 from another account to mine and then transferred it right out. Eventually it was all sorted but I was left with a -£1,000 for a few weeks before it was. Paypal were very helpful actually.

unlucky jodie :( glad you got it back though

that was one of the first places we went to change all the details once we had found out that her email had been hacked, also rang up to cancel her bank cards and get new ones, just for worst case scenario
