The idea of this posting has been the subject of much family amusement...

This year, in an enthusiastic re-ignition of a long-dormant enjoyment of photography, I have bought:

Canon 5D
EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM
EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM
EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM
MP-E65 f/2.8 1-5 x Macro
Macro Twin Lite MT-24EX

And the question is: Am I done?

I also some kit from my first EOS 20 years ago, including 50mm, 28-70mm, 75-300mm and a zoom speedlite, but they don't earn the space they would require in my backpack.

I have been borrowing a tripod for a few weeks and used it once. Too heavy and cumbersome to lug around.

There are spaces in my zoom range, but I don't seem to mind them.

I don't have photoshop, but Digital Photo Pony and Paintshop does exposure adjustment, crop and resize which is about all that I do.

The 1DsIII and the EF 600mm f/4.0L IS USM are attractive, but there is a limit to my budget...

So... I think I'm done.

Or have I missed something?

Is there anything else that you couldn't live without?

The £500 or so needed for photoshop will do more to improve your photography than any new kit. Post processing really is vital with digital and photoshop is the best there is for it.

If you are desperate to spend more perhaps consider the 24-70 2.8. You don't appear to have any thing that covers that (quite important range) unless the 28-70 you mentioned is the 2.8 L version.

I would just buy lightroom and combine it with elements for starters

Agreed.

I have both CS2 and Lightroom, and for most of my photography work, i now use LightRoom. Except I do use Photoshop for re-size and adding things to them such as copyright.

^^ What he said.

Lightroom F.T.W! :D

Oh and nice setup.

Although mine is 40D + 10-22 + 24-70 F/2.8 + 100-400 + 50mm F/1.4

One can dream there :p

More thoughts on things to buy.

Memory cards: They're dead cheap and you can never have enough.

Batteries: the 3rd part ones are very cheap and functionally identical to the canon ones.

A new flash? The 430EX can be had for a very reasonable price and it gives you so much more creative possibilities with photos.

It seems that the answer is "not quite" :-)

This isn't the first time I've been told to get lightroom. I might just get it based on repeated recommendation.

Memory is covered. 2 x 8GB cards. 2 x batteries, too. I just bought a spare drive:

It's pretty cool to be able to slip a quarter of a terrabyte in your pocket, which is handy, because I'm using up disk space like it is going out of fashion.

As for the MP-E65, it was pretty difficult before I got the flash, but now I'm getting the hang of it. I hope to have time to be patient and take something worthwhile at 5x this weekend. I'll post if it's worth showing.
