Guys, ive got the HIS X1900XT 512 Silent Heat Pipe Edition. I presume i cant get a better cooler for this as easily as a standard fan aided card? Ripping off heat pipes arent exactly my forte!

Get the VF900, it's a good cooler and very quiet.

vf900cu can;t handle the heat load generated by the x1900 series cards, if a cooler is needed best options lie with either a hr-03 or a cheaper option is a accelero S1.

i had a vf900cu on my x1900xt and it ran in the 80c range of temps even at full fan speed. only diff was that its much quieter than the stock cooler.

trust me on this pal, the vf900cu is a mistake for this card.

Mine ran at 75c which wasn't too bad compared to the stock cooler, which ran at 80-odd. OC'ing didn't matter considering the X1900 XTX was a poor OC'er at the best of times unless chilled.

thing is there are cheaper alternatives to the vf900cu around which actually perform better, such as the arctic cooling stuff. even the thermaltake tmg coolers are a better option.

with the hr-03 i have now with my card overcloed and a quiet 12cm fan on the cooler im hard pressed to break 60c temps in ati tool artifact tester. very good id say.

Just fitted a Accelero S1 to my X1900XT slave, no problems fitting...will see what idle temps are later (around 41 idle with VF900) Probably angle a 12cm to blow front to back over the length of the S1.

Currently 44 idle, however that's passive with case side door off
With a 12cm Thermaltake Thunderblade @ 7v blowing around the cooler now 37 idle.

ok another update, ATI card moved in the top PCI-E slot, 12cm Thunderblade fan @7v strapped under the S1. Overclocked to 688/738.

52 degrees maximum.

wow! :-)
