ok, so as some of you might have noticed, ive had major problems with this game after i bought it due to not having internet on my main rig atm.

i finally sussed out a way to get internet, and have just installed the game, patched it up (the auto patcher) which took for ever cos it was through 56k (3 episodes worth of heroes to be exact) and then i finally get to the serial activation part.

i enter in my serial, all goes through, gets to the end, and says 'press start to launch programme or press cancel... blah blah'.

so i press start........ nothing. ok, so i go to start menu, and it asks me to activate again, nothing new, same as before as though i didnt even try the first time

so i do it again, same thing happens!!! WTF tbh, i cant play the game because it wants to activate, and as soon as i actvate it doesnt launch the game?

is this some sick joke? has any body had this problem before with it? f'ing stupid tbh. HATE buying legit games.

It does say that an internet connection is required to play the game, and tbh it's not the first game thats done this nor will be the last.

It activated mine fine, but didnt give me any way to actually run and play the game. No icons, no start menu items, no nothing. :(

steam ftl, get proper internet, do as it says on the tin. i mean if youve got the pc to play it you should have broadband, stop whining at your own stupidity for not having broadband. and if you cant get it where you are then tough, you need one to play the game, it says so on it.

steam for the win.

/legal answer

I've bought it through steam but I still plan on using the cracked version. I don't want to have to rely on my steam account working/steam not being down/my internet connection not playing up just to play the game. And having DVDs in the drve = le suck, too.

Just download the crack and apply it. Skip the online activation all together.

If that's an option definately do that, once your stung by activation or protection issues it's always easier to just get a crack.
You can always justify it with "well I bought the ******* game, I'd like to play it..."

It's still criminal infringement of copyright and bypassing of copy protection even if you own it unfortunately. :(

These silly laws need an overhaul if the people producing media won't do it properly.

You should not need a broadband connection to play it, since Bioshock does not have multiplayer.

Indeed indeed. I guess I've always taken the view where if I think something is morally right rather than technically legally right, I'll go for it (assuming I can get away with it) :)

Funny isn't it how pirates can already play Bioshock unhindered while the legitimate customers who pay 2k's wages have to jump through hoops!

I think devs should just give up on the whole protection thing and include some kind of online feature with a key that makes the game worth buying. Lets face it there never gonna win the pirates so stop making life hard for customers.

Btw my pet hate is having to dig around for a damn disk every time i want to play a game. I bought it so shouldn't have to keep physicaly proving it!

never had a single hitch installing here, installed, serial whacked in, off i went, weird that, i usually have awful luck

How can you only have 56k with all that hardware lol, last i checked reading wasnt exactly rural devon :P

Game installed and activated fine for me though. Never had any trouble with copy protection in games, always worked fine for me. Guess im just lucky.
