Hi,

I'm looking at getting a Q6600 on an asus p5k in a sonata III case. Was wondering which of these three people recommend, though if the tuniq doesn't come back in stock anytime soon it'll be between the other two (n.b. the £30 thermalright not the £50 extreme one)

Any suggestions? Have had a search but finding it difficult to compare the three. Would like to overclock from 2.4 to 3.0+ if possible.

Cheers :)

[edit] seems the tuniq tower doesn't work with the sonata III, so it's really between the other two unless the tower is so good as to warrent choosing a different case!

I have a tuniq in my sonata III, although it is a tight fit and if your mobo's socket is too close to the PSU it might not fit. Mine's an EVGA 650i ultra and ASAIK the socket is a little closer to the edge than most. The tuniq is slightly cheaper than the ultra120, but you might want to replace the fan in the tuniq as it's a gets fairly loud on high.

I'd go for the Tuniq Tower :) if you can't get it in your case then the Thermalright Ultra120 would be my second choice.. but im biased as i've bought a few tuniqs for different builds.

Thanks for that link, didn't manage to find that one :)

Does the tower work ok with the p5k and sonata III?

Is it worth replacing the stock fan in the Tuniq Tower? If so, whats a good one to use?

See here.

So, you may easily replace the original fan with a regular 120x25mm fan, if you wish. However, the manufacturer stresses that nine blades of their original fan are more efficient than seven blades of other common fans.

Some say the stock one is noisy at full blast.
I guess it would come down to what noise you can handle.

Hello,

Ive got the same case and mobo, which did you go for?

thanks

Hi!

Went with the ultra120, didn't fit without a bit of messing around though! Had to take the rail that the PSU sits on away (drilled out the rivets), that let me run the heatsink vertically so that the fan blows the hot air out of the exhaust. With my [email protected] I get 56'c fully loaded, or 50'c with the side of the case off.

I think it would fit horizontally without modding the case, just possibly not perform as well. It's a good heatsink. Needs lapping though, two cores run at 56'c and two at 51'c!

By the way, how have you got on with the p5k? I'm getting massive vdroop :(

1.33v falls to 1.25 under load :o Awful! Don't know how to fix it but I have to set like 1.45v in the bios just for it to be stable at 3.2ghz, whilst at 3.0 it is stable with the volts on auto. Confusing :(

Which cooler are you currently using?

May do the volt mod on mine, the vdroop is awful :( Currently primeing on 4cores at 3ghz and it has gone from 1.32 idle to 1.24 under load  0.8v droop.

Im using a arctic cooler freezer 7 , not the best cooler out there, thinking of getting something better.
