Wet sand, this morning

Before getting bored and messing around with some abstracts, I managed to get up early enough to be the first person on the beach this morning, which is always a great feeling!

Three variations on a theme here, I decided to do away with my usual long exposures, and also the rule of thirds, which is definitely overrated! The reflections on the wet sand are real, not much photoshopping on these bar my usual contrast boosting.

Nice colours and mood in all of them. #3 is great. In number 1 and 2 though, i think the horizons are a little wonky :)

Hehe, they look wonky to me too but according to the distort tool in photoshop they're dead on! I think its because the landmass and light aren't evenly distributed.

What tool is that and how are you using it? On closer inspection (lining the horizons up with my browsers top bar) they are indeed wonky!

Easiest way to check horizons is to use the measure tool from one end to the other, then rotate > abritrary (sp?)
 
Hmm, technically you're right!

But only just :p - first is 0.3degrees off and the second is 0.5 degrees in the other direction. Going to fix it and see if you can even tell the difference :p

Were these taken in Cornwall or Edinburgh? Damn you for living on the beach like that. Must be so cool to get up early and go for a walk on the beach.

Gwithian beach in Cornwall. Its awesome having the beaches here, but I'm still not so hot on the getting up bit!
 
Tut! I'd be out early in the morning. Mainly due to insomnia rather than wanting to get up early I admit.

Turns out Gwithian beach isn't too far from Mousehole. Went there a few years ago on holiday. Enjoyed it very much. :)

Even more so when I found out what Mousehole meant. ;)
 
Number three is excellent. Excellent colours and reflection. I would say number one is the weakest of the set, it seems to be slightly dull and it doesn't have the vibrancy when compared to number three.

These were all taken with the Sigma 10-20.

Thanks of the rest of the comments guys. I agree about the first one being weakest... finding subject matter on a beach with nothing but 3 miles of flat sand was a little tricky lol, I guess the diagonals of the cloud and it's reflection aren't really strong enough.
