Sooo... finished Bioshock in 2 sittings

I thought they were ace, especially when i found out i could use the chemical thrower or the freeze plasmid to chill the target and slow down the flow :D

from the demo i though the hacking games would be too easy on the pc (mouse and all) but they are very tense on the difficult ones as you frantically try to find an alternate route when you hit an alarm block.

Hell didnt know you could do that!

I attack them differently too, I uncover my route before I start so I never hit a tile and have to re-route. The safes start quicker, so thats why they gave me more bother.

Oh class... will have to try that :)

I liked it but it was far too easy from about the 2nd level onwards. My guy nearly always had full money, ammo, health. Had everything could possibly get plasmid wise that was any use. Never used the bolts or chemical thrower other than for a laugh.

All the wrench plasmids turned my guy into some invicible nutter with the health sucking, freezing, x2/+50% extra damage/+research bonus etc. The last boss was also rediculously easy. 99% of the time lightning + wrench did the job, only other time I used weapons was for the big daddies.

I really liked it overall but I didn't think it was as good as System Shock 2 or Deus Ex.

Agreed, i think the first part when you getting use to the game was the best, first fight with a Bd sorted me out:p was way to early.

One thing they didn't put enough of in is fear. There was a section earlier in the game where there are flickering lights and you walk through water while watching a surgeons shadow.

That bit was the only bit in the game where I stopped and thought wtf. The other times where the lights went out, nothing happened until they came on again.

They missed a big opportunity to at least make some bits scary with creative use of the lighting. Some more variety in the enemies wouldn't have gone a miss either rather than the same 3-4 classes of enemy doing more or less exactly the same thing.

Did you not find the part where you have to go into the basement of Ryan Spirits scary??. The bit where you search the crate and the lights flicker...when you turn around theres a splicer encased in stone behind you...made me jump that bit:p. The surgery bit was creepy as well and also the dentist bit where you walk into the room and the smoke fills then when it clears....you have a splicer on the table and also the bit where the water is..again smoke fills the room and when it clears...turn around and theres a splicer behind u...

Creepy parts in the game, just going through it the second time round..this time saving the little sisters and trying to get the research achievement as well.

Hmm i thought i done them also....im guessing theres not an achievement for them, problem is theres only like 1 of them left in the game to research :p

There isn't an achievement for them but you do need to photo at least one of each (gun turret, security camera and the irritating flying robot wasp). Actually you may not need the flying things, can't remember.

I found Apollo square quite jumpy. Loads of slicers jumping out from hiding places and damn I hate it when they play dead.

Its also quite good when I have the wrench out and I walk round a corner into a big daddy and reflex whack him.:)

I have two levels to go and now realise I've missed one of the power to the people upgrade points from earlier in the game. I will quicksave before the final fight and go hunt it out. For research I just have to do Turret, Survellance cams and Little sister.

IIRC from reading xboxachievements lots of them aren't cumlative, so you have to get all the tonics/ invent 100 items in one play. Seems a bit strange, normally you can put the level up and carry on collecting.

I have a question with the tonic collector achievement. I read this on XBA...

"To get this, you need to collect 53 Tonics throughout the game, search every room and buy every Tonic from the Gatherer's Garden stations. You should get this right near the end of the game(Plasmids do NOT count towards the 53, only ones from Physical, Engineering and Combat Tonics count towards this).
Tip: Don't buy all of the Health and EVE upgrades as you will not have enough to be able to buy every Tonic that you need for this achievement. Also, you WILL need to save every Little Sister to be able to aquire this achievement. Wait until the third upgrade for the Plasmids appear, this will help save a lot of ADAM needed for this achievement"

So I now have bought all the tonics available from the Gatherers gardens, all thats left is plasmids and eve upgrades. I have 800 adam with nothing left to buy?? Do more become available in the last two levels?

Finished it tonight, must say the end boss sucked, was far too easy to polish him off even on hard :(

Overall I thought the game was excellent, but I still think SS2 was better in some respects.

Scort.

I just started it again on 'easy' because I need to get the Historian (Audio Diary Collector) achievement and the Research Little Sisters, which I can no longer do.
Couldn't get Historian on my first pass because I missed the diary in the ladies toilets in the very early stages, and missed one of the three diaries in the Rapture Control Room - and you cannot return to either of these stages later :(

So when you start it again have you got to get all the audio files or just the ones you missed?

When I went through the first time and you have to make a decision on harvest or save the sister I made an extra save then so I could carry on from there the next time. I won't bother though.

I have tried to find all the audio tapes because they are a decent listen but I'm sure I will have missed some along the way.

You have to get all of them in that game instance. Sadly.. :(

As I said though - up to 117 can be obtained by going back through the levels, however, there are potentially 5 that you don't get a second chance at. That's 2 in the initial level (before you get to the Medical Pavillion) and 3 in the Rapture Control Room (as the hatch shuts down after that part of the story mission, so you can never return). So a new game may be needed to ensure you have those 5 at least :)

These are the 5 you must get because you don't get a second chance. Check your diary collection in the back-menu. If you haven't got all these then give up now and start again :D

1) Steve Barker - Hole in the Bathroom Wall : Kashmir Restaraunt, in "Dames" Restroom.

2) Diane McClintock - New Year's Eve Alone : Kashmir Bottom Floor, on table.

Those first two are in the initial level of the game, before you go through the hole in the toilet wall and arrive at the point where you see your first Big Daddy (and watch it murder a Splicer). You can't get back through the hole. Workmen move in very quickly and block it off.

These next three are in the Rapture Control Room in Hephaestus (the level where you get your golf club out ;) )

3) Suchong - The Vita Chamber : Control Room, on the desk to the left of the entrance.

4) Suchong - Mind Control Test : Control Room, on the table beneath the clippings and photos.

5) Suchong - Baby Status : Control Room, on the table beneath the clippings and photos.

Am i thinking wrong that when you collect money it looks like you can carry thousands (because theres 4 bars to fill) but you can only carry a maximum of $500 dollars with a spare column for a thousand! If that makes sense?!

Yeah.. if there's a way of upgrading your wallet to take more than $500 then I've yet to find it.

You can research them so i assume you need them, i started again on hard now and im making sure i photo every camera like 5 times :p

Another question, i played through as the good guy the first time but this time im being the evil meanie. Do i have to worry about how i spend my adam if i want to get the plasmid achievement on the bad ending as the health/eve ones arent really nessecary, by buying those am i preventing myself from getting all plasmids achievement??

The guide on xbox achievements says that you cannot play through as the bad guy and get enough adam for all the tonics, for the achievement.

You have to play as the good guy and buy no health and eve upgrades. It also says not to buy additional plasmids. Remember plasmids aren't in the achievement just tonics.

I'm at work so don't have the link here to the xbox achievements guide for bioshock. I will put it on later if someone else doesnt.

Interesting, seeing as the first time around i got those ones listed above but think i might have missed out on a couple so didnt get the historian achievement.

Anyways going through it again, im at the rolling hills part where i have to get the ingredients for the flowers etc. Also instead of killing the sisters, im doing the right thing ie saving them...they look so cute when they thank you and run off...taking lots of pics as well as i didnt get any achievements for the research bit last time around. Also instead of using weapons, im now using the wrench to kill off the splicers and its not that difficult.

Hopefully this time round, ill get the historian achievement and the research ones. If not then ill kill myself:p.

I have one question actually-

In my main game, I have fully researched everything except the Little Sisters. They're all gone (rescued or harvested) so can't picture them.

In my new game I'll whizz through and fully research the Little Sisters only to get that achievement - will my other fully-researched achievements be recognised so that I get the PhD one also? Or do I have to fully research all the different types in one game instance?

From what I've read you have to re-start every thing again. They are not cumalative. So you can't just research little sister and get both, your going to have to photograph every category again. I think I will dip out on the same achievements, I never really bothered taking many pictures after first getting the camera.
