Reality makes one more step towards sci-fi movies with this creation. Researchers at USC have created a 3D holographic display that is able to show 3D pictures with no problem. The pictures can be seen from any angle. The device turned out to be not that complicated.

They used a spinning mirror that was covered with a special "holographic diffuser", a special DVI implementation, and a high-speed projector. All these components make 3D image possible for viewers.

The picture can be seen from any angle and any distance. It can project objects in different colors and works at 4320-5760 fps. The image can be pretty detailed at 768 x 768 pixels.

Well if this is true, then when is OC getting them in stock!!

Humm... I got a letter from my uni the other day with a list of research projects to choose from for this year, one of them was "Projection of computer generated holographic images". I guess its been done now, so not much point in me doing the research project.

On the other hand, that looks so cool.

Heard my mate mention this the other day, does sound damn sweet, anyone remember Duke Nukem 3D? Man the holo things in that game seemed so cool

Naud

but if its done, then you can 'cheat'? easy marks to research somethings thats been researched?

Hehe looks quite cool.

Well they've only made an initial stride into this. Surely you can take this further or work along a different route. What level is this for? Masters or Doctorate or something?

i wonder how big or small they can make the display while keeping or improving the image quality and maybe even with color to rival a conventional display
