Did you buy 32 or 64 bit vista?

If 64 bit (i can understand) do you have any regrets

or like, all vista users at one point must cry for XP's stability (once again)

often driver hell.

Working fine here since release. Forced driver signing was abit of a pain when i couldnt get rivatuner to work but that now has a signed driver.

I dont know about performance wise if its any quicker then 32bit but it seems very smooth to me and it lets me run with 4gb of ram.

i'm loving it. Being able to have 4 gigs of ram is very helpful considering vista likes to use a lot of ram. I seriously think i would struggle with 2 gigs.

I seriously think i would struggle with 2 gigs.

It really does. I recently bought a Dell XPS M1710. C2D 2.16Ghz 2GB ram GeForce 7950GTX. Vista was eating 1.6GB by its self (all Dell crappy software removed) making UT2004 run at 20-45fps. Stuck XP on giving me 1.7GB free and t now runs at 60-85fps (drops to 40 if there's 32 players onscreen)

Only significant issue I've had is with PeerGuardian not having a signed driver. So have to mess about in order to get that working :(

Im still out to lunch on mine.

I have not yet activated it.

I have Business 32, Ultimate 32 and just recently I got hold of 32+64 Upgrade and the 32Bit Vistas have been installed and toyed with, but soon taken off for a few reasons ( you have heard them all so I wont go into them ). The 64Bit however, I did fancy a play with, having found that XP64 has overtaken basic XP in terms of... Well... Everthing actually and I can never go back to vanilla XP for my main PC. And so Vista64 must be the same.

This is not so.

Sure I can see 4GB instead of only 3.5 but like as if that makes any difference to anything.

Reliability / stabiliy etc are a funny side to a weird coin... I have found 2K & XP to be absolutely rock solid and I dont get BSODs at all, so how can I say if Vista is any better?

At this time, with Vista64Ultimate, I have only two gripes, and the first is a pretty strong one for me however... Everything that I play, be it Music, DVD, DivX Movie, VCD, anything thats either music or video, using any program, from WinAmp or KMP, through to Window Media Player, they can all pause.
Just for like a half a second or maybe a whole second, but its enough to ruin my enjoyment.
I had noticed that when this happens, the drive light goes on, and the drive clicks, and trying to see if its any particular drive was hard since I have 5 drives in there, so I went back to XP64 for a couple of days and the problem went away... Back to Vista, and the problem returns... Nothing wrong with the hardware, just vista being a bummer.

another issue that I find a real annoyance is how slow it can be to start some apps, sometimes its not very responsive either, taking a few seconds to let me move a window or similar.

Compatibility have been fine. Some things have annoyed me.
Nero 7 is so goddamned awful, O&O Defrag - I have paid for up to v8.5 and if I want to use that in Vista, I have to pay for an upgrade on that now too!

End results are simple.

I want so much to go to Vista now, its just that Vista isnt ready for me.

The speed difference had noting to do with used ram & all to do with gfx drivers.
Plus Vista would have given the game back ram used for superfetch.

Vista 64 here,

Forced driver signing is a pain as i used stuff like Core Temp and such a lot just to check proper temps after and during gaming. (i have a slight overclock 2.66 Q6600 to 3.2)

The glitch/freeze in films and videos i have noticed too.

i have a MAJOR problem with soundblaster cards and vista + 4gb of ram. The mic socket does not work properly. Whenever i speak on Ventrillo or any other voice app that uses the mic jack i get lots of static. I hvae read up about it and it only happens with vista, a soundblaster card and 4gb of ram. Take out 2gb and its fine. Bit stupid if you ask me its been months and still not fixed.

Some programs are not vista 64 ready which is annoying :( My addon updater for world of warcraft (wow ace updater) and Win MTR the ping/tracert program. Also having to find 64bit demos of stuff like autocad 2008 was a pain but not too hard i guess. Since my version of Autocad 2000 will not install on vista 64.

Mainly its small gripes which I HOPE will be fixed in due course its a shame that after months of release there are still such issues with something MS is pushing as the must have OS. Personally i would have prefered to stay on XP but buying a PC with 4gb of ram, i needed a 64bit OS. And i was not willing to pay for XP 64bit since its so old.

Well VistaUltimate-64 has been great for me.
No problem with install & 4GB of ram
No problem with 4GB of ram & my X-Fi Elite Pro, in fact all my hardware works.
No freezing in videos/games or browsing unlike i had with XP, known problem with mobo & XP.

Really like the games folder & its features.
Could not live with out the side bar now that i have used it.
Responsiveness has not slowed down after 8 months of use.
Like the added security Windows Defender, better Firewall..i don't mind UAC any more.

Windows Media Centrer is ace.
DreamScene is nice for me as like that sort of thing. was using VLC before hand on XP todo the same thing.

The ram handling, superfetch & readyboost...ect is much better & now is faster for me to load & switch from games to the desktop.

It didn't seem to give the ram back to UT2004 at all, the choppyness was caused by it having to constantly load and sav to the page file from a lack of avaible ram.

It can only give back non essential stuff from mem.
1.6GB is a lot for a recently bought computer vista normally only uses 600M-800MB of ram to start with.
My setup with allot of stuff installed & used so superfetch will be doing it best to fill the ram with SW that i have been using plus 67 processes & firefox running
Is sitting at 1.4GB.

must have been Dell added junk.

Ironically, my Vista 32 wouldnt work with a signed driver from Adaptec, but the 64 version does, so I stuck with 64 and now very much loving it. No problem with any Driver now, which I was sceptical about. Generally it does feell slighty nippier than 32, but just a little. No difference in games that I can tell. But it is a bit harder to tweak 64 as opposed to 32 Version.

Since going Vista 64 bit, no problems at all. Movies and music play absolutely fine, no pauses. 4gb ram installed and working very well. Have only had 1 BSOD recently, caused by Bioshock and older Nvidia drivers. I have one small issue but this is with Nvidia's drivers which is I only get a Monochrome picture on my UK PAL CRT, annoying as I like to watch DVD on the telly and not the monitor. I await Nvidias WHQL Bioshock driver. Many have said that 64 bit Vista is more compatible with some stuff than 32 bit.

I find apps load much faster in Vista and the GUI is instantly responsive and fast. Looks the part too.

no problems here

at least i can use all the installed memory 4 gig

not the 2.25 that vista 32 gave me ( got 32 bit with pc no other option ) Ocuk provided the OEM 64 bit vista in exchange for some numbers on a bit of plastic ;)

running 8800gtx in sli hence the reduction in mem in 32 bit

so happy bunny here :D

Nope went for 64 bit on my old and new desktops>
Went for 32 bit on my old laptop and 64 on my new one.

Not had a problem with either, 64 bit is a must if you are using more than 3 gig's ram, but you might as well always go 64bit anyway incase of future upgrades and such.

Vista x64 is working great in my case being fast, rock solid and no driver problems, all my games run fine and my XP PC is hmm collecting dust apart from the odd Windows updates.
