Hi everyone,

I'm sorry if this should be in the Sports Arena, feel free to move it mods.

Are there any members here of Bannatyne's Gym? Does anyone know if it's possible to pay, say, three months in advance? I'm not a member there, but could I just go there get registered and then pay between three and six months up front and see how it goes?

Thanks.

seriously, would it not have been easier to get the number for your local gym and call and ask them?

No, you need to sign up for a year and they don't budge on that.

Not unless you force them to :)

"Force them to"? I may have to join a Bannatyne's if getting to FF proves stupidly time consuming when work moves.

However, I don't want to sign up for a year. :\

Im a member, not sure about your question i think its a year, but arnt most of them doing a 2 week thing trial thing at the moment ? depends what you mean by see how you get on like ? i can assure you there good gyms, i cant say much for the personal trainers in some of them though, they dont seem as switched on as id like sometimes.

Most gyms will give you the whole 12month minimum, this much if you want "premium" membership, £xxx joining fee blah blah blah but in the majority of cases there are numerous options on their "system" that will allow a range of flexibility when i comes to membership fees and minimum terms.

When i joined Bannatynes a few years back the only option was to subscribe for a year then pay a rolling monthly debit after that, i knew a few people who worked there and they said that was the only option, not sure if that has changed now though. There were also problems getting out of that contract that caused them to be investigated by trading standards i believe i.e. they could give you 1 months notice that your membership was being terminated (at any time in the contract even in the inital 12mth) but you could only give a minimum of 3 months notice to terminate after you initial 12mths were up!

Not sure if that ever got worked out, but there was a get out clause in their t&c's that if you developed a medical condition that meant you couldnt use the gym for a long period you could give 1 months notice which is how i got out of the membership in the end, just wrote a letter with a made up condition quoting the t&c reference and stopped my DD.

I just stopped my DD and told them I was going to trading standards.

Didn't hear from them again :)
