What's so great about Corsair's PSU's?

I was looking for a PSU for my new gaming rig and everyone here recommended Corsair's HX520 or the 620.I went for the 620W and when I tried it,it didn't work. After some search on Corsair's forums,I noticed that there are a lot of people having similar problems with mine, new PSU's not working at all or dying in a few weeks.I dont regret buying it(I will regret if my 2nd one isnt working too)So what is so special about them, why is everyone recommending these PSU's?

As stickroad says they are good quality PSUs, they have Seasonic as their OEM which is, in itself, a pretty fair indicator that they ought to be decent but they are supposedly built to even higher standards. The demonstrations have been impressive (quad-cores overclocked with watercooling, SLi'd 8800series cards etc) and the reviews have been similarly exemplary so it seems more a question of why should they not be recommended. :)

//edit having just had a quick skim of that thread you should perhaps note that the Corsair is in fact a single rail PSU which has been nominally split into multiple rails but if there is an overload on any rail they should work as one.

I have to agree with stickroad ^^

The only negative I can see is they don't (or didn't use to have) a place in the UK to return stuff to.

Erm can you explain this a bit more?I didnt really understand it.You mean that I have done something wrong?

starmanwarz your PSU may be faulty (which is a shame) but you have to remember the amount of PSUs Corsair sells, their will be a few that wont work.

been running my 520 for a good few weeks now more or less 24/7 and its stable as a rock, its the same with all products, could have 100's of good reviews but one or two bad reviews will make you question how good it is.

but its all good reviews from myself

This is true mate, but I have to blame someone because I have a kicka** PC waiting with no PSU to run it(and I will have to wait until next week).

Ok, sorry. PSUs come in two basic varieties - single rail and multiple rail (dual, triple, quad). The Corsair is marketed as being a triple rail PSU but in actual fact is a single rail PSU (Jonnyguru review) which means that the suggestion of one rail being damaged is highly unlikely since there is no physical or electronic separation of the rails - it either works or it doesn't.

I RMA'ed a 520 recently but I would still have confidence in the model and brand. They are quite nice to work with but thats my first experience of a modular design so its probably no different in that respect from other top brand modular ones.

I think they high brand esteem comes mainly from the RAM side of the business and most people expect some of their excellence there to rub off (which it seems to do).

The only disappointing thing is no UK RMA location as stated above but OcUK supported me in this isntance - so no complaints there.

Well this is not true.My HX620 worked fine with my old system, and it didnt work at all with my new one(only watercooling worked when I bridged the pins and with nothing else connected).

well if you are going to take it out of context then you can counter any statement anybody ever made ever...pointless. you know he was talking about the single rail/multiple rail confusion. they only have one rail so 'either it works or it doesnt'. you cant have one faulty rail when there IS only one rail. :)

corsairs = seasonics on steriods. the most complete and easily the best built psu's for the money.

Having just put a 620 in a mates PC I would have to say that the only problems I had with it were the modular connector things and the cables, both seem a bit flimsy and poorly finished IMO.

Corsairs are just the flavour of the month atm, a while back it was Hiper's but now Hiper PSUs seem to have a bad name on these forums.

Only time will tell exactly how good the Corsairs turn out to be.

there is a difference between corsairs and hipers. hipers dont use industry grade components:)

Partly agree, the finish could have been better.

Corsair have been recomended for months now. When i first joined people were recomending them. Ive never come across many people recomending the Hipers even before they started going BANG. :)

Everyone already knows that Corsair PSUs are fantastic PSUs. :)

nearly a year, actually. ive had my hx620 since January and they were released a good few months before that.

OK, the last few months then :p

The Hipers were recommended for ages too, I bought one on the recommendations and it's still going strong for me.

In a year or so we'll see if there's any reliability problems with the Corsairs, just like we saw with the Hipers, hopefully they'll be fine though. My only problem with them was the cabling finish quality, apart from that everything seems solid.

I hope so, I selected and fitted one in a mates PC on recommendations and reviews - this is my first Corsair and apart from the cabling thing, I would probably buy again :)

Hipers were the flavour of the month as they did the business, but it appears they are not as reliable as some others...and they was cheap.

Around that time, the higher end recommendation was the Seasonic.
As others have said...the Corsair is a better version of the seasonic, so some things haven't changed.
Do we get many..."my seasonics stopped working" threads?
