Complaining against college?

Last year I went to college to do what would've been my 6th year at school and was hoping to go to university to study Animal Biology.

At the beginning of the year I was told that I was only allowed to sit 3 Higher subjects so I was persueded to pick English, Maths and Computing. I had wanted to do Biology too but was told no.

Through the year I was told by various students that they were doing 4 Highers so I asked about to see if I could join a Biology class and was told I could do the units from a mixture of Human Biology and Biology and that the university would accept that even though I wouldn't have sat the exam.

One unit didn't get completed as the lecturer was sick and I wasn't told that there was a change of day (which I couldn't make) and time of the class. I also sat the NAB and did the coursework for another unit and passed both but it didn't show up on my certificate and when I phoned up I was told that I was withdrawn from the unit and no reason was given as to why.

I've emailed and phoned staff but they either don't answer my emails or don't return my calls.

If it hadn't been for them I would've been in uni by now and I'm not. I don't know wether it would be worth my while to complain or what action can even be taken?

Sorry for the long post but I wonder if anyone would know what to do and how to go about doing it?

Thanks, Lor xx

I'd certainly complain. In writing to the College and if I didn't get anywhere the Local Education Authority.

Thats terrible :(

Complain and complain until you get an answer and the place in University you deserve. If one person doesnt listen or answer, then go above them, and so on until you find someone that will.

Totally unfair :(

Thanks guys. I phoned them again earlier today and giving them tomorrow to return the call and if they don't I'll be writing a letter which hopefully will make them listen.

If I complained what would happen anyway? I couldn't get to the uni as I won't have the results I needed, even though I was told it would be fine in the first place, so would have to go back to college anyway, obviously a different one!

well, maybe they can make a special allowance in your case due to your local colleges complete incompetence. You were told you would be allowed in, why shouldnt you be? doubtful there was a change of rules just like that.

I hope so anyway.

But I wasn't told by the university, I was told by a tutor who contacted the university on my behalf but they could just deny it...

:( well that is true, I hope it works out for you, stuck between a rock and a hard place. Dont get dis-enchanted with your life goals, if it doesnt work out, keep trying, its time wasted and very annoying granted, but what else can you do but try to over-turn mistakes made, and if that doesnt happen keep moving foward to where you want to go?

I've not got much to contribute, but just thought I'd say keep on their case and don't let this drop. Their administrative **** up shouldn't cost you your career plans, and it's already cost you a year of potentially paid employment.

On one hand, your college is clearly incompetent so I'd make some sort of complaint.

On the other - if you wanted to do Animal Biology at Uni, why did you take English and Computing, instead of taking Biology in the first place?

I had done both Computing and English at Int 2 and was told it would be better to upgrade them so I had Higher. I had done Biology at Standard grade (got a 1) so they said it would be ok as I've got the Higher Chemistry units too but got a D in the exam.
