2GB v 4GB RAM Benchmarks?

Thanks for the link, but it was written before Vista was even released.

What I'm going to do is purchase another 2GB for my system and post some benchmarks up.

i'd still say that is pretty true.. i was running 4gb pc3200 for awhile and i would be stuck around 45% usage on vista but i burned two cheap modules out so i now have 2gb and windows still runs around 50%. (vista ultimate) can't wait to upgrade. have now purchased a board :)

would be great to see some benchmarks though... even better is they were in 64bit mode :P please :D

yes, let us know how yo get on, as im in the first stages of building a system, havent got any ram yet but its a p35 based system, and i have already got win ultimate x64...
(want to take advantage of x64 and extra RAM options)
i was looking at getting 4x1gb of pc8500 RAM

Im not sure wether to get somthing like balistix or ocuk value as im not sure what the real-world advantage would be by buying the ballistix.

will be watching this thread closely!

What I'm going to do, (if the fleabay item sells) then I'll do some real world tests.

A selection of games, 3DMark and the such.

Plus just the general feel of Vista with 4GB.

Fingers crossed fleabay sells!

Being honest, on my Vista64 system, upping to 4Gb made no discernable difference. Imo. And on my system. :).

Why do you need PC8500?
You could save a lot going for the more reasonably priced PC6400.:).

well, im a bit of a nob when it comes to ram, it's hard to tell whats best, im preared to get some budget 8500, or some good 6400, or even an expensive set of 8500 if theres good gains to be made,
but then theres the burning question of...

is it better to get 2 gb of blisteringly fast ram, or 4gb of value ram:confused:

edit: bearing in mind its to be use on vista x64

If your OCing, then yes the PC8500 stuff, but otherwise the PC6400 is more than good enough. At stock speeds there will be little to no difference in speed.
:).

Installed me extra 2GB so thats 4x1GB.

No change in CSS Stress Test.

An extra 65 points in 3DMark06.

But I knew it was never going to improve stats like that.

However, Vista is so much smoother and the biggest improvement so far is BF2.

No more stutterness when I first join a game, so much better. BF2 needs 4GB in Vista.

Haven't had a chance to try anything else out. Will post if I see anything worth a mention.

Any chance your dual booting ? Id love to see how 4gb ram compares to 2gb of ram on a 32bit OS, see if it actually makes much difference.
