It' actually makes much more sense when you read it, as whats in the brackets act as a sort of mental commentary. It is quite like being in anguses(I'm sorry but the spelling suggestion for this is anuses) head while hes thinking, It does make sure you get exactly what he means though, as there is a lot more context to it, and as he says, less room for misunderstanding.

If in fact I am "attention seeking" then I have been doing so on several different forums for an extended period of time (and the only problems I have ever had with my posting style have been in the past week on OcUK).

Why do I "deserve all the abuse he [ I ] gets [get]"? (The spacing ["[ I ]"] is due to a grammatical error incurred when I posted in the correct format). Maybe people should try to understand that when people over-analyse the posts of another user they will spot traits more easily. Also I dislike to argue in a bad style. My use of brackets is generally to ensure that there could be no misunderstanding of what I mean (although many people disagree [I cannot see how it could cause confusion however]); is it not predictable (obvious [dare I say?]) that this practice will increase in argument? When one is in an argument (or debate [people would contest this I am sure]) one tends to have to be incredibly precise lest one be willing to waste hundreds of posts in order to sort out the posts which have misunderstood something; this is a possible reason for an increase in brackets.

I think the brackets have been done to death. But do you also dislike contractions, Angus? All this 'cannot' and 'would not' and 'have not' sounds a little forced and over-formal in the context of a discussion forum.

Say what? Congratulations sir you have managed to read the first half of a sentence, not bother with the second half. Good job.


And mosses your saying on here there are never times where a person types something, and due to the lack of tone in typed words people have got the total wrong end of the stick and there are about 20 posts yelling at the guy etc, for him to come back and explain what he wrote. However with Anguses posts there is a tone and context.
 
I think An(g)us sounds silly :). That's all. Maybe in real life he sounds completely normal, his posting style didn't seem as annoying until recently at least. Hmm. Still, each to their own.
 
I have nothing to say here, other than if one takes time to read Angus' previous posts, they will find that he indeed has used parenthesises on occasion "()" as we all do. There is the occasional bracket in there as well "[]", but on the whole it only is in the last week or 2 that this stupid nested parenthetical comments have surfaced.

English doesn't obey the laws of maths, double negetives do not make positves. Brackets whitin brackets, braches, nesting. FOR GOD SAKES MAN. (Oops I said something)
