Xbox Live to close on Monday

Thursday, September 6 2007, 09:45 BST

By David Gibbon, Gaming Reporter
Console manufacturer Microsoft has sent a message to users of its Xbox Live service informing them it will close down on Monday for maintenance work.

The firm said the service will close at 9am on Monday but will be up and running again at around 1pm the same day.

Although Microsoft refused to comment on what the maintenance is for, there is industry speculation that it will involve the annual autumn update.

Rumours also suggest the update will include a parental timer, allowing an adult to pre-program a set amount of time for their youngster to play games before the console shuts down.

Sorry if its been posted.

Most of us will be at work then so it doesn't really matter.
It'll only concern the lazy students who can't be bothered to go to lectures.
Actually, it won't bother them, 9:00AM is far too early for most students to be awake :D

hows that going to work? Console shuts down after x hours, turn it back on again login under different profile, jobs a good 'un.

LOL yeah kind of stupid, can't the parent just turn off the console when the child has had enough time, guess thats too simple for most

Well depends if the kid(s) know how to setup another user profile.
Judging by a lot of kids who are clueless when it comes to team kills in team FPS games, there is a good chance they won't have a clue :)

Be great if it is the update, im looking forward to see if there will be infact Divx compatibility or not.

Also as for the parental control thing, just seems like a waste of time as im sure hardly anyone will use it and the kids will work out how to get around it if it is used.

Its easy, don't let your kids have a TV or Console in their bedroom, we have told ours they are not having anything like that in their room until they have completed their GCSE's, they have a PC but thats heavily monitored with VNC ;)

all this stuff about electronically limiting children to X amount of hours or only allowing them to view certain web pages is rubbish.

tell your kids when to stop playing computer games, tell them what sites they arent allowed to go on. kids are going to find ways around things anyway, i certainly know me and my school friends did with the schools content filtering system, and have a bit of trust in your kids.

(plus having an all night gaming session on my mega drive as a lad with my tv on mute never did me any harm ;))

Its not the kids going on stuff they are not supposed to that worries me, it's what sicko's could be talking to them on MSN etc. - but that's a whole new thread.

I just logged into xbox on my pc and it seems the server is a little messed up now :O

Every ones GS is at 0 and some of the proflies wont load up:eek:
