Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AA6

Just got these to replace the Geil...not really bothered bout the 1yr...paid double for the Geil and now they get errors @ rated v's...these are doing the same overclocked speed the geils were but now i'm underclocking and @ 2.0v.:D

I've got some Ballistix's PC6400 RAM and I've set them to 2.2v in the BIOS like Crucial recommend. I'm not overclocking so should I set them lower? To 2.0 or something?

I mate

try 1.8 /1.9V - shoud be enough, and the mems will stay cooler at that voltage ( and theyr life extended)

no problem to try ( no harm to the mems), worst thing who could happen is to get some instability if the voltage is not enough:D

Funnily enough they've been at 1.8v since I've bought them 2 months ago, I've only just upped the voltage as I was told they should be run a 2.2v. They seemed fine at 1.8v (gigabyte mobo default) so I might put them back tonight.

Cheers.

(QUOTE=mattbill;10043572]does the PC2-6400 version of the ballistix ram OC as good as the 5300?[/QUOTE]

of course it does, it was the same Micron D9 GMH chips:D

Thing is im gona be building a pc soon but im not sure if i should get this ram now. This pc has to impress the parents also it has to work for 3 years and one of them i wont be down here to sort it out for them. I wanted to get crucial balistics and overclock it to 1000mhz. But do they offern die like every 3 months. If so then im gona have a problem.

Your parents need memory running @ 1000mhz?

One of my Crucial 10th anniversary sticks has just died and I'll be getting these as the replacement, hope they are half decent clockers....looks like I'll have to invest in some active cooling to go with them.

Just seen the ballistixs are on offer this week. Not sure if to get another 2 gig and get vista premium 64.

Ballistixs PC6400 seem to be awfully expensive everywhere now. Do you think the prices will drop a lot over the next couple of months?

I reckon they will go up if anything.

RAM was at it's lowest in July and Early August. Everything will tend to get more expensive now as people start thinking about Christmas. If you want something, now is a very good time to buy as prices will probably trend upwards until January 2008.

Did you buy them from Crucial or OcUK?

no but it needs to run at lesat 2 years on 1000mhz i cant keep rmaing it every 3 months as i need my pc for collage work.

Also, when i leave to go to uni on the third year ill be leaving it here and coming back to it on ma days off. But this means unclocking it then reclocking it. Very irritating.

I cant take my pc with me in the first year of uni as id have to keep carting it back because your not allowed to leave anything in the dorms.

Well I just got my RMA replacement 5300 sticks and they are stable at 916 mhz, 4,4,4,12 @ 2.05vdimm and 1000mhz 5,5,5,15 @ 2.05v. Can probably tweak the timings a bit more but I'm impatient and TBH have never noticed any performance difference in games and such from messing with timings.
