Cassadaga is a pretty good one.
Four Winds is their best song ever I reckon, amazing bit of lyric and music writing.
Soul Singer in A Session Band sounds is an attempt at their older stuff, and successful to an extent, although still a great song.
Middleman is slightly folky, depends whether you like that kind of thing, but I think it helps break the album up a bit, in a good way.
Album trails off a bit towards the end, but the first 8 tracks are worth the buy on their own.

Desaparecidos record came out 2002. First Bright Eyes record was in 1998. Bright Eyes came first.
I love Fevers and Mirrors and the Every Day and Every Night EP (which has 5 of the best songs ever written).

That's all his best stuff. Digital Ash in a Digital Urn is alright though. Cassadaga is crap. Noise Floor isn't bad but doesn't compare to his actual albums (it's rarities).
Lifted was his breakthrough album, and is fantastic. The other three I mentioned have a much rawer quality to them, and have great character as a result. Songs like "Padriac My Prince" and "Haligh, Haligh, a Lie, Haligh" are brilliant off those albums. "Don't Be Frightened..." I find to be the most depressing of his stuff, with songs like "No Lies, Just Love" and "Going For The Gold", but it's also brilliant, while a little short (it's basically an EP).
"A Collection Of Songs Written And Recorded 1995-1997" I could never get into, the production is really poor, and I don't believe the songs are actually that good really.
That should keep you going!

Cassadaga is a really bad album.
For me it sorta depends on my mood. Letting Off... is nice as he was like 18 on that record? Fevers is my favourite, as all the songs are top notch, and the repeated themes are terrrrrrrrrrrrrrific. Lifted is probably the breakthrough album in my eyes. But yeh kudos for the Every Day and Every Night EP, can't argue that it's tip top.
Overall I'd say Fevers and Mirrors, just cuz it'll show you a different side to the band you know and love from IWAIM.

i love fevers and mirrors.
it seems to be quite a mix of his country style, as shown in ''Something Vague'' and then the complete different end of the spectrum with his angsty songs like his desaparcidos stuff. 'Sunrise, sunset'' off this album really sticks out as one of these songs and i absoulutley love it!

General Woundwort used to scare me
