HI ALL

i picked up 2 stick 2x512 of geil ram the other day which are matched to go with my geil 2x512 that i already have in my system

put it in and now when booting and in cpu-z it does show dual channel but at a speed of only 333 instead of 400

i have tried both sets on their own and they work ok at 400 but when all 4 are in it goes to 333

my proccy is a 3700 san deigo revision 6 so its not the rev4 prob

the only thing i can think of is i am sure the ram i got when built comp ends in 2.5 but this ram i think ends in 3 could this be the prob

do i need to set it in bios manually (WHICH IM AFRAID I AINT GOT A CLUE ABOUT

is their a big difference between running at dual channel 333 and dual channel at 400

if anyone can help be great

thanks

mobo i have is this one here http://msicomputer.co.uk/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=224&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=

It will be slower than DDR400, but i doubt you'll notice in use, the extra quantity more than makes up for it.

Your motherboard (and every other s939 motherboard afaik) cant run with 4 sticks at full speed reliably, so theres no getting around it without fiddling with the bios. You MIGHT get lucky, and make 400 1T, but since you dont overclock, just leave it. Or buy 2 x 1gb sticks.

my 3700+ ran 4x512mb sticks at about 410ish when overclocked (333 in bios) the only problem was that it ran at 2t instead of 1t

ah damn it

my new dual core proccy came aswell this morning

might have to swap it out for 2x 1gig sticks then

on the plus with it only running at 333 does this give me some room to overclock the x2 3800 that i have got today

reason i ask is this board is rubbish in the bios cant change multiplier or change to 1t afaik so its stuck at 2t u can only change the fsb and the ram voltage

i just wanted to tweak the x2 3800 by another 200mhz so it matches my 3700 when running single core apps but im not sure the mem will take it

tbh the idea was to get this dual core and another gig of ram to boost the system to last another year

now it feels like i have gone backwards

will i see any probs with it running at 333 i was hoping for quite a boost with the new components

As you have the newer core you can run four sticks of ram at DDR400, 2T

The older revisions (Winchester, Newcastle, Clawhammer, etc) could only run at DDR333

Very true, E6 and newer core/memory controller revs will run DDR400 with 4 DIMMs at 2T. However, the bios or the chipset may be the limitation here.

Have you tried manually OCing the memory back up to DDR400 or faster?

Also, FWIW, my Opty 165 on ASUS A8N32 would run 4 DIMMs at 250mhz or better. So, this OPs San Diego should do OK too.

I running 4 Dimms (4*1Gb) at DDR400 at 252mhz (1:1) on my ASUS A8N32 with X2 4400+, but on my DFI would only run at DDR333.

I had to change bios manually to allow memory to run at this speed you will need to leave at 2T, I also had to play with the memory settings.

i thinks ts the mobo tbh

booted up bios with all 4sticks in

set it to 200 and 2t and when it booted it seen it as 400 in the bios

but as soon as xp started to boot it reset itself

and this is with my new x2 3800 installed

anyways ive now sold some of the ram and am going to get 2x 1 gig sticks
