Oced PC just turned off in game - ideas?

If it actually turned itself off; it's probably a temperature sensor killing the beastie, or the PSU throwing it's arms up in dispair.

Hangon, rebooting would be the sign of a bad OC. Turning off would be a sign of a bad psu (I'd of thought?).

could have been a blip in the electricity supply.

edit: Could be over-heating as the guy above said.

Kinda

Bad overclock means more heat, more heat gets it closer to the auto shutdown, auto shutdown turns the PC off. I'd look at heat first (cpu, gfx and mobo north/southbridge temps) then at PSU.

it booted straight up after and i went into bios to check everything... PWM temp seemed a bit high at 61C but rest of temps inc CPU seemed ok.

one thing though... core temp reads 35C and 47C for my cores... how so??

Do you have any software that keeps a log, it might give some info at least. Did it just turn off or did it reboot, did it freeze just before. Whats the HW spec and PSU. what are your 12v 5v 3.3v rails like during load.

shutting straight down is normally a psu issue. you'd normally get some sort of warning if it was a temperature issue. like a sodding loud chirping from the onboard buzzer. well, if it ha one lol

Cant see a buzzer, just a small metal cylinder with smoke coming out of it:p

hmmm what about the PWM temp? whats that? i only ask as its a lot higher now than when i had my Opty in. used to run at 50C loaded but now its 57-60C+.

oh, no buzzer noise and i have the onboard speaker working.

no warning... just shut straight down.

sounds like a psu issue at lease. what psu is it? what gear are you running?

the PWM's (pulse width modulation) are the power mosfets responsible for powering the cpu. dont worry, they are good for up to 100c or so.

My system just shuts straight down without warning when the CPU overheats - it depends on your setup. Did it go to reboot after? Or stay off?
