Thinking of getting a commuter banger to the train station every day. I have fully comp on my BM, does this allow me to drive another car TPT&T as standard or do I need to notify my insurance? It will be insured in my g/f name without me being a named driver. I am insured with direct line

You are only insured TPO (Not TPF&T) on other cars if your certificate of motor insurance specifically mentions it.

Note, it does NOT cover cars owned by you or leased to you under a hire purchase agreement. Owned and Registered Keeper are different. If you buy this car, it is your car, and you cannot drive it using DOC.

Doing it properly, ie insuring it etc, will cost a fortune. Might as well use the BMW.

It is only 1 mile to the station, engine will not be warm by then unless I drive to the station down the line 4 miles away which is what I have been doing with the diesel.

It lowers the insurance for me being a named driver on my GFs policy (she got a black mark on her license and I'm over 30)

We are named on each others policies.

EDIT if its only a mile, get a push bike. I'm biking to work regularly since we got bikes through work.

Hows about walking or getting a pedal bike. 1 mile is not really a distance that needs a car - or I am way out of touch and too old.

BTW before I get any posts about how I have a massive 4.4L car for "town runabouts" I do walk to places that are near by. I use the motor when I have to go and pick stuff up, or drive to the parents (300 mile round trip).

not going to be my car, g/f's £320 a year insurance on a clio 1.2. I just wanna move it off the drive to get to the BM when I want to

So you've gone from wanting to buy a commuter banger to drive to the station one minute to simply wanting to be able to move your girlfriends Clio off the driver another?

Bizarre.

We (my g/f & me) want to drive to the station like I have been doing since having the courtesy cars. Going to be insured in my g/f name.

I do not really want to take my BM because the parking spaces are really tight and a mile is not going to do the car/economy any good over time? yes I can walk but cant be arsed.

I want to know if I am insured on my policy so if at the weekends I want to get my BM out of the garrage I can move the banger off the drive to get to it leaving it on the road. Like wise if I want to drive it occasionally i.e. my g/f is not at work I can use it like you have clarifed TPO (sorted) cheers

Sorted, close thread :)

So you want a station banger but want to insure it uber cheap, we've told you cant, so now you are pretending you only want to move your GF's car off the drive, smooooth :p

Give up! It will be insured in my g/f name, which is infact 100 more than if it was in mine! I do not have to pay for it then, g/f does :D
