money saving gym tip... any good to anyone?

I think they vary quite a lot. I was a member at Brondesbury Park one and there was a limited DB selection and no squat rack.

After moving flat I transferred to the Bloomsbury one where they have plenty of DBs, squat rack and 6 or so benches. Plus the bonus of it being a bit more of "health club" is in 4 months I've yet to have to wait to use the squat rack!

Wish they had that down here, actually a nice place to train etc.

Only one smith machine that could be used for squatting/benching.

Grr i'm jealous :(

Has anyone done this yet then? I'm guessing i have to buy the pruhealth insurance first and then do i turn up at a cannons gym and tell them my pruhealth details to get the cheap membership???

Has anyone used this? There's an LA fitness near me and i'll hopefully be back in employment soon, the LA fitness is also about 2 mile closer to me than the alternative (a lot of time saving when it's by bus). Is it for peak or off-peak?

Although Canons is a nice gym and has lots to do with all the swimming and saunas etc, my local one is lacking quite a lot for a serious bodybuilder.

No standard bench or squat rack (smith machine only).
Fixed dumbbell and barbell weights (useless for deadlifts really).

Everything else is just machines :\

Although for £20 i'm considering it because it's usually £46.

I know what you mean, my old gym was like that but I couldn't complain as it was only £20 a month.

Damn it, me & the girlfriend have been paying £50/month for ages to go to our local Cannon's. Thanks for the link - going to have to try it out.

£50 lol? why bother.

I pay £16 atm, then again it's council owned and im a student so it cuts the costs :).

anyone got any ideas roughly so I can show my dad?

if you go to the pru health website and get a quote then that will give you an idea. you might pay a bit more for first 3 months but after that you will just pay your helath insurance, so it's entirely dependant on your quote.

I have now signed up and received my stuff from Pruhealth, and applied for pruhealth through quidco, so for the year my membership will have averaged £19.75 per month and that's at the rather nice cannons gym in covent garden. where they usually charge £72 a month. and ontop of that free medical insurance with no excess.

Best deal ever i think.

:D

£50 gets you away from the random scum that enter council gyms for one off workouts.
the cannons i use is pretty damn fantastic, and thats before i think about the fact that i do not pay to use it (or any other cannons for that matter!).

well my dad did.. i keep telling him that its cheaper than that.. what are you actualy meant to do to get the cheaper gym membership

if your dad is old, a smoker, drinker, has had medical issues previously, then yes, a high quote would be given.

low quotes - young, non smoking people with no pre-existing medical conditions.
