On the ITV late evening news, much emphasis was made of the tri-English Sport matches of the following day...English Football, English Rugby and English Cricket matches...which was to be played on Saturday 8th September.

But not one mention of the Scottish Football, Rugby or Cricket matches to be played on the very same day.

I wonder why??

ITV has to chase ratings, there are many more people in england than scotland, and so they concentrate on english teams...

ITV have the worst sports coverage/commentators on british TV, fair play, Worse than sky, and that takes some doing.

Population of England: 50m or so
Population of Scotland: 5m or so

Which do you think generates more viewers and therefore more ratings?

Most people aren't gonna be interested in Scottish fixtures

fact

and your comment about England not being good... we won the rugby world cup fairly recently, we always do well at international tournaments in footy (although not as good as we should do, and this time maybe wont even qualify, but scotland are pretty crap to qualifying anyway)... I can't speak for Cricket though, don't watch it at all

Nothing like trying to watch a football match on telly and hear john "1966" motson rambling on, watch england v germany and within 30 secs we had "of course england won the world cup" blah we know it's stuffed down out throats every time.

And don't get me started on the rugby, why is it that the english media automatically think that they should win everything, and then make excuses when they fail again, every football world cup is "their year".

And yes I know Wales have been crap in football but we don't go into every tournament saying we will win it, we should be allowed to win it etc.

Nonsense...

Oh **** off.

Don't watch ITV then if you're unhappy about demographic based coverage?

I didn't watch the news so I don't know how exact the "not one mention was made of Scottish..." is but assuming it means precisely what it says and there was nothing said about any of the other home nations fixtures it is a bit poor. I'm not saying that there should be extensive coverage but a swift mention of the days international fixtures for all of the home nations would hardly be a big imposition on their scheduling. :)

well to be fair it was a rugby event. They didn't need to mention football or cricket at all. They could have just done a bit about each home nation rugby team.
