How can you find out what is the latest realm to open and on the realm select screen why is one of the recommended realms in blue and the others in green.

And finally are these two questions connected (ie is the blue recommended realm the latest).

Cheers in advance
Al

Yes, as far as I know, blue means newly opened realms

Just to save you the problems of having to pay for a move... unless you have friends joining the realm with you you'll have a MUCH better experience on "medium" population realms.
The low pop realms are often approaching ghost town status. People roll a new character on them to enjoy the "fun" of levelling without the support of their mains but get bored and transfer away.
Its a problem blizz are trying to deal with that will likely end up with realm mergers at some point.

The latest realms to open were the TBC release ones.

Normal: Hellfire, Ghostlands, Nagrand
Player vs. player (PvP): Karazhan, Auchindoun, Shattered Halls
Roleplaying: The Sha'tar
Roleplaying PvP: Sporeggar

These all opened 16th January.

Not sure if we'll ever get any more new realms, as the subscribers seems to have peaked and levelled out. Maybe WotLK launch.

Might be best to look in realm forums on website to see what the players think of it.

I hear a few English servers have been hijacked by Russians and other non-English speakers.

Lightning's Blade is like this, looking to transfer my Tauren elsewhere just not sure how to go about finding what is a 'good server'.

Tried looking at a few realm forums and reading general chat in-game but it's not always 100%.

Matmulder im on hakkar, where did you move to?
its impossible to get a guild on hakkar and to get instance groups, as soon as they find out im english i get kicked.
looking for an english speaking realm any recommendations? the realm forums arent that helpful for info:(

If i were you i would move into a medium population server, they are often much better established than recommended realms so you can find groups for instances much faster and the economy is much more stable. I've tried out a few recommended realms recently and i've found that the prices of all sorts of things change massively in the space of a few hours and i find it really difficult to find a group for anything.

I can definately recommend Talnivarr as a good server. Even though a majority of the population is level 70, you wouldn't have much trouble finding a group for instances or getting in an endgame guild.

Twilights Hammer is also a good medium population PVP realm. Have guilds on illidian and a good spread of lower stuff. Fair amount of alts being levelled in many areas (tho it has the same problem as most realms with much of the population in outland).
