Hi guys

Just a quickie...

I have ordered Vista Home Premium Retail version, direct from Microsoft through my works Employee Purchase program

what I want to know is, (As it didnt state on the website) whether it is the 32 or 64 bit version.

So, what version normally comes with Home Premium retail? is it both 32 and 64 bit or is it just 32?

If it is just 32, how long does it take to send off and get the 64 bit edition?

And lastly, could I install the 32bit version while I'm waiting for the 64bit version to arrive, then uninstall the 32 and install the 64?

Thanks guys

Lee

It will be the 32 bit version that will be supplied.

You will need to order the 64bit cost approx £8 when I ordered it.

I install the 32bit version while I was waiting for the 64bit version to arrive, but I did not activate that version.

Thanks for that Simon

How long did it take for the 64bit DVD to arrive?

I dont really want to have to install the 32bit, then have to scrap everything to install the 64bit version.

If I can get hold of a 64bit OEM version disc off my mate, could I use that to install the 64bit using the Key i get with my retail version? Then still send off for my 64bit DVD for use in the future. Is there anything illegal about that?

Or

Can you download the 64bit version ISO from Microsoft, and burn it to DVD then use that with the Key I get in the retail box ?

I'm only trying to save some time, as I was going to pick up my PC on the 15th from ocuk (which by then my 32bit retail will have arrived) but now it seems I will have to wait again for the 64bit DVD to arrive as well :(

Is there any other (legal) way I can get the 64bit version DVD and use my retail key?

Thanks

Hi Lee,

It took 2-3 weeks for my copy to arrive, maybe quicker now.

Here is the link to order the 64bit version

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/1033/ordermedia/default.mspx

The only problem you would need your product key from 32bit to order.

When I was using XP you could not use a OEM disc with retail keys as software is looking for a OEM key. I would think it would be the same for Vista.

Where are you based?

Thanks for the info, Its only my impatient nature thats making me want to sort a quicker way to get the 64bit edition lol, well and the fact I heard the 64bit is more stable.

However if its not the case, that 64 is more stable than 32bit. Then I wont be in so much of a rush to get the 64bit on there..

I'm based in Oldbury, Birmingham.

If there is no real problems with the 32 bit I wont be in such a rush

Thanks

Lee

Hi Lee,

I had no problem with both 32 & 64 bit versions.

I did have problem with drivers for 64bit or the lack of them at the begin.

I also found that some of my software were not supported in 64bit.

The reason why I using 64bit as I have 4GB of memory.
