Apple will cover it with a worldwide warranty, should you need it.

The US ones have a louder volume limit as well

The French have a law that states a max limit in db for all personal audio devices, so when apple ship european ipods they are all limited lower than the US ones.

That used to be unadjustable. But now there is a slider in iTunes and a check box for max volume for iPods. EU players are defaulted to a lower max, but the max is now chooseable.

Both the US and the UK store say they will be available 28/09/07. Although I suppose its going to be cheaper in America.

I am not sure - I think the max on that scale is lower than the US versions.
