Hi guys.

I've just "completed" a project which involves a lot of pipe, a fairly meaty Eheim pump and a...... Ford Orion radiator.
Initially this only has a DD RBX block on it.

After the install, I cold-started the machine. It was idling at about 79C, not overclocked and idle. I played around a bit with the thumbscrews holding the block down - they were already tightened so that the springs were completely compressed. Undoing them a bit, temps went over 85C and the CPU began throttling. I then did them up harder and harder and noticed the temps going lower and lower.
I now have the block on as tightly as I can, and I'm looking at idle temps of 67C.
The coolant going into and out of the block is still cold, and the block itself is cold.

Basically I'm not getting any transfer between the die and the block. I know it gets better once the AS3 has had some time to set, but this is ridiculous. I was getting better temps with the old air-heatsink.

Thoughts?

Oh and I'm using TAT...

reseat the block. Tighten the bolts in a diagonal manner, eg. bottom left, then top right, bottom right, top left, a little at a time.

Ok.
Let me begin with this;

<--retard

just got the TIM cleaner out and gave it all a good clean.

Thermal transfer isn't awesome when one end of the block is propped off the motherboard by a row of capacitors...:o

Idling 30C

Cheers for the help anyway!
