PSU being pushed too hard?

Edited to clear things up

Hi all. Currently im using a Silverstone TJ04 case with two Akasa 120mm fans (45cfm 18db, one intake one exhaust). My temps all spiked 15+ after installing an 8800GTX (temps were fine with X800XT), i isolated this to the PSU causing a localised heat pocket next to itself causing CPU and HD temps to jump up. Stupidly enough its only now occurring to me this is more than likely due to the fact that every cable on my Hiper 580W PSU is being used to power my system therefore stressing it too much, also i think its only a single 12v rail. Temps are fine with the top of the case removed.

So im thinking new PSU that can handle the stain better. But if after that the temps are still not ok with case fully closed then i need a new case. What are you recomendations for PSU and case?

New PSU ideas (Budget around £70 exc VAT):
Coolermaster Real Power 620w Modular
OCZ GameXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2
Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular

Its either this or upgrade the case which i dont want to do if i dont need to. Currently thinking (Budget around £70 exc VAT):
Antec P182
Would 2x120mm be enough to cool a quad 6600?

Antec 900
Dust isnt an issue, easy enough to air dust once a month. But what is noise like?

The thermaltake Amour is not an option, i think the two bars at either side of the front are bloody ugly! I prefer a "plain and simple" exterior like the two above.

If you're after a PSU, I'd look at a Corsair 520w Modular, just replace that Hiper before it takes out half your street :)

If you got that new PSU and you still found temps are too high, I'd consider cutting a blow hole in the top of your silverstone and attaching a silent-ish 120mm fan. It it works out it'll save you £70 on a new case, if not you've probably only wasted a £5 trying it out. But out of the 2 cases I'd pick the Antec P182 for it's sheer quality.

Also those temps look fine to me, even under load...

The temps currently are fine. Putting the case panel back on increases temps to (idle/load):

CPU - 50/55
GPU - 66/75
HD - 50/55
Mobo - 40/45

Wondering if that is just the PSU spitting out a ton of heat as its under stress? Would 520W be enough for quad core + DDR2 + the 8800GTX?

Blow hole is viable option currently looking at. Though would put in a low noise 80mm as the gap between PSU and optical drives is currently 120mm! Am i correct in saying that all PSUs are the same size except when you get into the 900W+ domain where they become longer?

Yeah those aren't great, they are acceptable kinda but that hard drive temp is nasty.

Possible... may just come down to seriously bad airflow in the case, such no where for the air to escape so it just lingers around inside and heats everything up.

Yeah, no problem at all for that Corsair PSU.

Pretty much yes, you might get the occassional one that is an irregular size but mostly they are the same dimensions near enough.

Thanks for the info Filbby. Should add though my current temps are the same as when i had my X800XT (Except it sat at 48 under load :P). Only had to remove the panel to let the heat out when i upgraded to the 8800GTX, hence why im thinking its purely the strain on the PSU.

Can always upgrade and see what happens, if necessary decide weather to cut a blow hole or get a funky new case :D Should have looked at yours specs when you recommended the corsair PSU, if it can handle a 2900XT it can handle my set up :)

What are peoples opinions on PSU and Case options? Just so i have all bases covered.

Your Hiper only put's out 360w on the 12v rails anyway. Check the label on the side. It is also well known that despite the Hipers proclaiming 580w (630w peak) that they cannot even supply their stated capacity. Couple that with their innefficiency and i would say that it is most definately your psu causing the problem. Add to all that their eagerness to blow up and you find you have a hot running, innefficient, (except when it comes to blowing up, they are good at that) timebomb. Get rid of it and get a decent psu. A lot of people swear by the Corsairs but there have been a few that have died over the past couple of weeks. Another excellent one is the Zalman ZM600-HP Heatpipe Cooled 600W Modular PSU http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-009-ZA&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=235 . It has been getting excellent reviews and a couple of people on here have them as well. They are more expensive than the 520w Corsair though.

psu can vary inside but if they its length not width soo they still go in were they shudl just some stick out further back. this tends to be small say 1 cm extra you only get the big size differnce with *** over top ones.
