Xbox Live to close on Monday

They normally do some maintenance leading up to an update, but then release the update a few weeks later if previous ones are anything to go by.

Got a message from Microsoft last night when I turned on my Xbox...
Completely forgot about the Autumn update, so it would be nice if that is what its for.

imagine if they lost everyone's GS. it would be hell on earth for M$

:D

It wouldn't bother me that much if mine got lost. I doubt it would be that hard to get the scores back anyway. Going by what achievements the users have done etc.

Besides aren't all those stored on the 360 as well anyway?

I think we're going to see a change in the Extender software as well. I read yesterday that Microsoft were enabling Xvid and DivX support for extenders, however it hasn't been announced yet if that's going to include the Xbox360. Here's to hoping.

I highly doubt it but it would be a welcome move :)

any chance of them updating the chat feature so you can have a group convo in this update? :)

This would be great as in GRAW2 you sometimes cant here people on gamer channel and it happens with me and my mates so if there was more than 2 way chat it would be good. I really do hope they add xvid and dvix support.

yeah the chat thing and the xvid and divx support is all i really want. and to be fair, i think theres enough people asking for this stuff on the net for them to warrant doing it

Fingers and all other extremities crossed then i guess :)

I would like to see some more resolutions, but that would be too sensible for M$

I received a message stating that it will be closed for maintenance and banwidth increase. I have no Idea if this is to do with Halo or the the forthcoming release of PGR4, or both.
What I can say for certain is that we need a more reliable service than we have been rceivin recently.

I have just moved from a Premium setup to an Elite setup so I need a more reliable service.

What's wrong with the service? It's (generally) quick, constantly updated, and works quite well. The only times I've ever felt let down is when there's a big demo or content pack being released, and the whole Marketplace crawls somewhat, but even then, it's never THAT slow that it's been a problem.

But I guess with the EU marketplace being launched soon, Microsoft have probably realised they need more bandwith in place to deal with the video downloads from another continent etc.

Still, I find the whole Live service a fairly good deal.

What have we got in Marketplace? A few music titles to choose from, Game demos, Game and other videos and Live arcade. Nothing to really write home about is it. And certainly not worth £5 a month if the game demos are ***p and the music is forlorn and a basic waste of space. Music is a highly individual taste and to market so very little variation limits the vocabulary of its clients.
There are many websites offering resonable downloads at a reasonable price but MS doesn't want to include them just in case they boost Sony sales.
I just hope the Live arena improves otherwise it will be a nail in Microsofts coffin. Sony have got 6 big servers coming online in the next 3 months to add to their free service at present. And if you don't want to buy music from them there is always a browser service available where you can download music directly to your PS3 via other servers.
The PS3 also makes use of the MS extender software to download and play music or video from your PC and identifies it as a Media Server by making use of Media player 11.

for god's sake, Marketplace is FREE, you do not need a gold service, just a silver. I'm shocked by the number of people that dont know this!

I'd like the ability to sort the friends list, sign into the same MSN account in two locations simultaneously, and a web browser would prevent me from having to switch inputs just to check on a site quick.

And I also want Burnout Paradise...looks so fun! Though not as fun when Live is down :(

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong but in Marketplace what did I say above?
Even if you don't have to have Gold membership, its absolute rubbish. I have yet to see anything really decent on it to my taste. Browsing a propper Media Server gives you a lot to choose from. Market place limits itself to itself and the tastes of those who run it. I have never in one survey from MS or XboxLive been asked my input towards the growth of the Marketplace. Then of course once you have purchased online MS still haven't dealt properly with DRM which is its own conundrum. Like how many Xbox 360 owners are going to be left in the dark when HD encryption comes into force and they are viewing via component. Has MS ever asked you? Have they ever mentioned it in any newsletters. No. And you will have to dig deep in the forests of media rubbish to find it.
