Hi all

This weekend I decided to exchew the ever-popular Renault World Series at Donington and instead make my way to the BritCar 24hrs at Silverstone. I paid two visits over the weekend: the first at around 12:30 am until 4:30am to get some funky night shots, and a second visit at 11am this morning. I would like to use this thread to show you the results from the first of my two visits.

Panning shots are generally at 1/25th. ISO 1600 and f2.8 (using Sigma 120-300 2.8 and D200). Stationary shots shot with 50mm 1.8.

Oh yeah, and car No 78 was driven by the Top Gear team, of Clarkson, Hamster, May and Stig. When you open the doors the sign on the side loses the “L” and “N” from the name – can you guess what it would read then????

Hope you enjoy. :)

Neons on a racing saloon :(
In the dark it probably makes the car easier to spot for the pit crew, especially if there are two similar cars campaigned. At the bigger Lemans events they have light-up number panels but I'm guessing private teams like this can't afford that sort of technology yet. This year they also had a colour coded triple light system to denote whether the car was in 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in its class.

I was there, i was a member of the Torque speed motorsport pit crew, what a solid 30 hours it was, we had 4 cars running from our garage, one crapped its engine (nice E46 CSL),the second E36 M3 had its vanos fail, and the valves on 1 and 5 got very friendly with the pistons!

The 3rd red E36 M3 went top and tail at one of the bends and totalled the car.

Our E36 survived, the dif was replaced 7 times, it kept cooking itself, we changed the oil, thinking it was that, but that didnt help, then we thought it was the driver pushing the car too hard, ie putting too much strain on the one side, tbh we still dont know what was causing it, but we finished the race so all was well, we were hoping for a top 3 finish in our class, and if it wasnt for the diff we would have :(

But i must say it was the most grueling thing i have ever taken part in, the race was solid work, i got maybe 30 mins of kip when the fog decended at 5 am.i was so knacered at the end of the day, i was falling asleep on the way back to the midlands:o and it was sooo bloody cold last night :(

Great tho, it really opens your eyes to what motorsport is really about.

I have some pics which i will put up later.

rofl at larsens biscuits :D

rumour has it the other side of the car had something containing PENIS, but I cannot seem to find a pic of it

Quit a few of the cars had glow in the dark number which were pretty funky.

Oh forgot to add, Imet the TG guys, they were trying to scrounge bits for their bimmer :p

I also know who the stigs are (well 2 out of the 3 anyway):D

Very good event. Could've been sunnier, but at least it didn't rain! Will post some of my pics up sometime

Was good to see you there Joe :)

Endurance races are cool :D

Wandering the paddock at 4am is sooo cool! Such an atmosphere! :D

Bloody knackering on the other side of the fence tho.

We were on our 4th diff by then:eek: plus the car was mapped wrong tbh so we were fueling every hour and half.Thank god the fog descended, it was the only time we got some shuteye:p

We dont know why the diff kept going tbh, it was frying itself, we think it could be a problem with the d.shaft on the one side putting too much load on that side, or maybe the bottom arm was slightly bent, we werent the only people that had diff problems.

The other two were freak incidents tbh.
