Nvidia G98 Card To Price Cheaply At $59

Nvidia G98 is also codenamed D8M which stands for Desktop 8 Mainstream will come cheap at US$59. This G98 card will come even cheaper than the current GeForce 8400 GS with only 4 layer PCB. It is meant to put further pressure on ATi low end segment with the RV610 and the upcoming RV620.

Nvidia G92 is D8P, Priced $199-249

G92 is also known as "D8P" which stands for Desktop 8 Performance and the marketing name is GeForce 8700 GTS as revealed earlier. There will be 2 variants; 512MB and 256MB. The 512MB version costs US$249 while the 256MB version costs US$199. The G92 cards will be using either Qimonda or Hynix 1ns GDDR3 memories. November is going to be interesting with the new GPUs as well as MCP78 chipsets supporting Hybrid SLI and C72/73 chipsets supporting 3-way SLI. AMD is also getting ready their RV670 GPUs to compete against G92 as well as RD790 chipset supporting Tripod and Quad Crossfire.

Definetly no high end for November then it seems. No matter I can wait. :D. Like I've said NVIDIA have absoloutly no reason to bring out a high end yet. The high end was most likely taped out but when NVIDIA found out the 2900 would not challenge there flagship it gave them absoloutly no incentive to pour cash into a chip that just wasn't needed yet.

At leas it looks like me 2900 will be playing crysis at high settings at my old low res of 1440x900 :D.

$59 dollars for a G98? sorry is this a joke... Nvida would never bring out a new card to be that cheap lol.

Why not . ATi have the 2400's which are about $59, this is what these chips will compete against. Basically what NVIDIA is doing with these new G9 chips is just filling in the gaps.

when you think that $59 = £59 (to nV usually anyway) before tax that sounds about reasonable. Ok so its more likely be in the £75-£80 bracket all told, but it isnt that far off

Nah, it's gonna be priced competively against the ATi 2400 most likely. Id expect around £40

Just because something is new does not mean it has to be expensive. Often, new technology can mean that manufacturing costs have been reduced. In this case the card uses only a 4 layer PCB, which will indeed substantially reduce manufacturing costs which they will pass on to the consumer to better compete in the lower end market :)

Ill beleive it when i see this on other sites. As stating on another review. Nvida are very hot and strick on not letting anyone know details about new cards. How comes all these websites are saying totaly differnt things to each other saying them like its the truth.

You cant beleive everything you read. I cant beleive with all the hype and all the new games coming out they would release a G98 at 59 quid. I can understand coming in between 8600 and 8800 because there needs to be a card there to push the 8600 price down.

Alternatly Nvida could be playing with everyone. What if they are infact bringing out a card to fit every range? From 50 quid to 400.

I would believe VR-Zone and people like Shamino over the Inq and Fudzilla any day of the week.

A very reputable source are these guys.

No matter what, we have enough power right now for every single game out there, and probably Crysis too when it's released?
Plus Nvidia are leading, there's much better sense in them releasing cards that they know will sell very well mainstream, while maturing their process technology, which in the end will result in a better high-end card. ATI currently has the process technology lead, so if Nvidia can get there, with the same kind of performance benefit as they have now, they are on to something. Would be even better if ATI goes 45nm in the same time.
