I don't own one yet as I'm not fussed for 'HD' films at all atm.[

My friend uses the 360 HD-DVD player on his PC and I've watched 2-3 films on it (and some of Heroes season 1) and there's no problems so far, ain't heard any complaints from him either.

so you have no experience of your own and youve seen 2 or 3 films on a mates pc. and your giving me the low down? im sorry owning both formats, i know a lot more about this than you do.

see, now the decent thing to do would be to say 'actually yeah, you're right. i just assumed it was as straight forward as playing a dvd'. but, well, ^^^ that says it all:)

Sony has a larger revenue than Microsoft, but Microsoft earn more at the moment which is no surprise charging extortionate amounts for an awful OS.

Josh

EDIT- Don't mess with James about audio/visual, he'll stomp on you! :p

wash your mouth out! :p

its not really extortion is it? i mean, not many of us like paying £170 for an operating system. but how long is that going to last you? 6, 7 years? £25 a year, free updates and everything else? you probably spend more than that on games per year, right?

now, the price of things like Office and photshop.......

Yeah but its still Windows. I can buy OS X for £50 and its all on one disc, only one version, no serials, no virus's, no faffing with adware spyware removal software. Faff faff and faff!

I like working with my computer not trying to get my computer to work. I haven't had a PC since December and im glad i dont. The only reason i had one was for gaming but having a 3siggy,PS3 and a wii i dont have a need for one anymore. I love building PC's and that was my main interest in having a PC. But after spending £300 on a X1900XTX then 6 months dow the line selling it on for £110 was the last straw.

Anyway, enough of this as it will probably start another debate :p

Not it's not. He's been nothing but positive for the PC, almost to what many people would dub 'fanboy' status for how he talks about games. If he said things about Xbox360/PS3 as he has about PC he would be classed as a fanboy.

However he's correct, playback on PC's is very poor at the moment.

Well buy OS X then?

Why would what MS charge even bother you if you don't buy it? makes no sense to me.

Because i used to build PC's?

It doesnt bother me anymore as i dont have to buy it, i have already got OS X so why would i need to buy it ;)

Being out for 5 months worldwide is nonsense, firstly because America and Japan have had it for almost 12. Then on top of that, Xbox360 was out a year before that, so PS3 games were in development then as well.
We're talking 2 years of 'next-gen' gaming and there still isn't anything on it that blows anyone away.

No it isnt nonsense that is FACT. Not only that but what you are saying is absolute bs, just because x360 stuff has been programmed for 3 years doesnt mean at all that PS3 stuff has as well. Not only that but its actually been stated by developers that the PS3 is harder to get to know the ins and outs so its not surprising that there is a lot less stuff apart from the 18 months Xbox had already in hand.

No it hasnt blown anyone away but its also completely comparable to whats on the X360 (PGR3 - Motorstorm, absolutely nothing in it ) and for a freebe GT-HD is excellent , hopefully Prologue which is iminent will be even better.

Games are also region free, so even having Europe as being out for 5 months is a moot point..

Actually it isnt, games take longer to develop and cost a small fortune before they are released, of course the majority of developers are going to see how a console sells worldwide before really pushing the boat out. Not to mention the fact that Europe is a huge market share of the majority of the developers (most of which are European or US based)

It's a games console, I bet you it's atleast 8/1 people buy it as a console than a 'multi-media' device, at least primarily anyway. If you took the games away from PS3 do you think it would sell? It wouldn't. If you took Blu-Ray/Media away from PS3 would it sell? Yes.

Wrong. Burnout has never been on PC. Call of Duty 2 was, but then bettered on Xbox360 and Oblivion was made for Xbox360 and PC simultaneously..

Well all I can say is with the PVR addons, not to mention everything else - I can see it going the other way, but time will tell. There are as many people who have bought it for br playback as anything else (not only BECAUSE its probably the best br player on the market). Your questions are stupid anyway simply because there is never going to be ps3-br for the foreseeable future so it cant be proven (apart from that being my precise point, so your question is actually taking away one primary reason why I believe its bought in the first place)

Well how come I have a PC box infront of me stating Burnout ? Maybe only part of a series of which you are stating another one, so X360 has taken over a pc series of games....so now your arguement is even weaker, an 360 premium game is only a follow on game...hmmm ok so what?

Again, you're talking about the past. This is now, Microsoft have money, more than Sony. Sony have given a MASSIVE leap to a company that from day 1 delivered quality games on the Xbox360 and are still pumping out better games as of last week (Bioshock). Because Sony came from behind last time doesn't mean they will this time.

I really dont think its got anything to do with how much money either corporation has in $ or yen. Maybe Sony will maybe they wont, but the mere fact they HAVE done it before - and absolutely slaughtered the competition in the process, gives them a better chance to do it again.

With all their money, Im sure one day MS will get their hardware quality control correct (3rd time lucky so they say) :D

Well, I own all consoles and formats (you can see my 3dmark score here) and as somebody with actual experience and ownership of all formats unlike the vast majority of people here trying to argue for and against whatever platform, I can truly say:

lol :p

There are a great many silly arguments and debates here, such as 'GT5 can't be done on a PC' - yes we are all aware of that, but people forget that each platform has their own exclusives and benefits, rFactor and GTR anyone? I could have sworn that guy was trying to talk from a hardware capability point of view, but using certain games as a definitive reason as to why one platform is suddenly God over another is quite silly - especially when said game hasn't even been released yet.

Then we also have the bluray isn't on PC (Japanese language) argument - I suggest people do some research before they post.

What are you guys all trying to say? Everyone has different tastes and uses for the platforms, yet a lot of you seem to think we're all using them for the exact same things and reasons. Here's a small reminder: we don't. This is where your 'X platform is better than Y platform because it does Z better' argument falls apart.

In my case i have an above average PC setup (well maybe not for this site), that can play just about anything i throw at it at the moment at max res for my monitor (1280 x 1024). I have a PS3 not because its better than a PC,Wii or 360, I have one because I prefer the Sony 1st and 2nd party games to anything on the 360 or Wii. With multi platform games, im not bothered if the 360 version is a little bit better (or worse in some cases), im only after the Sony games I cant get on any other system, im pretty sure there are others who make their console choice on 1st party games rather than multi platform games. With Microsoft pushing there Games for windows brand I can see more and more 360 exclusives coming to PC, with games such as Gears of War, lost Planet and im sure they will soon announce Mass Effect for PC, for me the 360 looks less of an option for gaming when i own a pretty good PC.

Are you sure? i've never heard of Burnout on PC and I've just done some research online and can't find any reference to a PC version  got a link or something?

That makes perfect sense. There are many people around the world who will be absolutely seathing with envy when the next Ico comes out for the PS3 :)

Me, I prefer Mario, Metroid and Zelda, so went for the Wii first, but got the others cause i'm a hopeless gaming addict.

Team Ico are supposed to unveil their new project at TGS next week ( I hope so)

Awesome. The only failing that could be fairly laid at Colossus was the poor framerate and 'last gen' visuals. Just thinking what could be done with the PS3 is very exciting.

I suggest you do some reasearch before you post, You can't do 7.1 LCPM on PC for the last time

That means in english that you can't get Digital HD sound out,( analogue cables are ok IIRC but thats not the whole point of HDMI)

Which means you only get Half out of blueray/HDDVD than with a PS3, standalone unit.

I'm not sure whether new 360 elite can do 7.1 uncompressed pcm over HDMI??
