It's my birthday in little under a month so I'm thinking of treating myself to a GTX 768mb OC :D

Rest of spec at the bottom :)

Will I see major improvement if I take the plunge  also what power connectors do I need to power a GTX? I have only every had ATi cards :( so I'd like to be sure atm it's just 1 x 6pin into the rear of the card?

I play MOH AB, COD2, Insurgency

And will be playing COD4 - Crysis

E6600 @ 3.6ghz
4gb Ballistix 5300 @ 979mhz
Dell 24" lcd

Thanks!

Yes, you'll see a pleasantly significant difference.....to put it mildly.

And the GTX needs two 6-pin pci-express cables.

Will be an absolute massive boost in performance, and the GTX needs 2x 6x Pins. :)

Oh right?

Can I buy an adapter of sorts?

I currently have a Hyper 580w (please don't laugh:D) and that doesn't have the right adapter?

Maybe if I call them they may send me one perhaps?

At least a 50% performance boost. I went from a 2900 to a GTX and I was blown away. Get that new set of pants before you fire it up otherwise it's gonna be messy :D:eek:

I would say more than 50%, I had a 1950pro before my GTS and I think the difference was night and day.

Not just speed but image quality with 16x af and 4x aa

Sorry to piggyback on this thread, but I'm contemplating the same upgrade, but am limited to 1280x1024 due to my monitor. It is worth it for me, given the lower screen res?

Will be playing Oblivion, NWN2, Bioshock. Eventually crysis. Running Vista 32-bit (just installed), 2Gb OCZ memory, Opty 170. Haven't overclocked since the memory/OS upgrade so all running stock. I guess I'll also have to upgrade the PSU - a NeoPower 480W.

Cheers guys.

Yea why not at least you can sit safe in the fact the GTX will last you bloody ages at that res.

Waste of money unless you plan to upgrade your monitor in the next 6 months IMO or you want to run vista/directx10 games desperately. Your x1900xt flies at that resulution already.

Well.... that was also my thought

I can't do it for a month or so anyway, so I guess I'll just keep an eye out for any bargains out there. Unless I can find a kind soul to chuck a 24" dell my way, or I can sneak my work one out without anybody noticing.

'Excuse me sir, is that a widescreen monitor in your pocket....?' :D

Just ordered my BFG NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB :D :D :D

Should be here tomorrow............ I hope!!

Oh it's going to be a great weekend! :)

I keep umming and ahh'ing about buying an 8800 and this post isn't helping!

I'm paranoid that I'm buying "at the wrong time".... 9800 isn't due really soon is it? :(

To be honest there is ALWAYS something coming out in a few months worth waiting for, same for chips, RAM etc.....

I know this card is very very good and will do me for a couple of years even if I have to lower the eye candy over time

I can't wait! Will sell my other bits now I know its finally on order :D

Sorry I'll stop talking now :(
