Heya all :)

To cut a long and silly story short, last week I lost my beloved N95. Naturally, as soon as I realised I called Orange, had the phone barred and got my replacement the next day at a cost of £100 and £6 per month from now for Orangecare insurance.

However, thanks to an honest gent and British Transport Police, I have my phone back in one piece, undamaged.

So, what do I do now - is there any way Orange will unbar the phone so that I can give it to my girlfriend to use? Or at the very least, refund my £100 or something?

Incidentally, the refurbished N95 they sent me is a beauty with a much better battery seemingly. So, anyone worried about N95 refurbs from Orange - mine is great - better than my original!

Surely though if they don't do anything at all with it it's just a waste of a perfectly good and almost new phone? :)

I'll give them a call tomorrow and ask, but I fear my friend you may be right. Cheers for your reply :)

Let us know what they say, quite interested if they will unlock it or not. Can see mine going missing if its only 100 for a new one!!

Insurance fraud, fun!

They have paid out for the phone under the terms of an insurance policy (Which is why you now have Orange Care).

It belongs to them. You must return it to them if found, becuase it is no longer your phone.

... or you could try to gain from the situation. I know what I'd do.

I don't think the lost phone belongs to them as he wasn't insured on that phone. He's only insured on his current phone, hence he had to pay £100 rather than getting it free on the insurance... That's my understanding anyway

They gave me two options when I rang to report it lost :

1) Pay £100 now for a new phone and SIM card - and £6 each month thereafter which would be for insurance.

2) Pay a nominal £15 I think she said, for just a new SIM card (which I already had anyway, being an Orange Premier or whatever it's called) customer.

I obviously needed a new phone and thought the £100 was rather reasonable for a N95, reconditioned or not.

He paid £100 for 'Emergency Orange Care'. This is a short-notice insurance policy. A Nokia N95, refurbished or otherwise, does not cost £100. It costs lots more. He effectively bought a short notice insurance policy which covered his loss.

The phone now belongs to Orange, who will not un-blacklist it.

"He" understands *ahem*

Cheers [TW]Fox :)

Perhaps someone should suggest to Orange CS that they mention those facts to customers when they phone up with a similar problem as I.

Ah right.

Still, I know what I'd do, and it wouldn't involve phoning Orange that's for sure.

In my books, as far as they're concerned, the phone is gone - they were hardly ever expecting it back and I'd take advantage of that.

No phones allowed in Members Market.

And please. Will people please stop talking about committing insurance fraud. It's up to you what you do, but don't post away and tell everyone about how you plan to cheat the system and break the law.

Take advantage of it doing what, though? It's useless and worthless becuase its IMEI blacklisted.

Only in the UK.

But still I'm gonna stop with the incriminating talk now. The "right" thing to do is tell orange :p
