Does anyone know which drivers I should be using for this card? I'm having to use Omega drivers as I cant get any of the ATI ones to work.

Can anyone post the drivers they are using without any problems. Many thanks.

Borked just for AGP? Or altogether?

Can't say i've had any problems with the 7.8's myself.

apparently they are borked just for agp users, i use 7.8 driver for my x1900xt and for the x1950pro agp i got it wouldn;t even work properly with 7.8 driver, slapped on 7.7 driver and everything runs perfect.

yeah 7.8 are fubar.........i thought it was something id done when i installed them. I did lots of googling and it looks like they dont work on agp cards like ours. I have a x1950gt 256mb

Yeah, 7.8s seem borked for AGP cards. I found out when fitting my old x1950pro to a mates PC to sell to him and the performance was around half of what I would've expected for his rig. He then didn't want to buy the card but rolled back to the 7.7s and all was fine.

On his PC the issue was when checking the smartgart bits in CCC you couldn't turn on all the fast read/write bits.

The half performance thing was odd as you'd get the peak fps you'd expect but with big drop offs and loads of stutters.

when i had 7.8 driver installed, i could not get out of 4 bit colour 640x480 mode. did my head in. if i had used 7.7 driver in the first place the transition from nvidia to ati would have been far easier and quicker.
they should have a warning up about the 7.8 driver for agp users on ati website.

I'm having some real issues now. I've tried to replace the omega drivers with the new 7.9's from ati and all I get now is 'can not find suitable driver for your hardware' then ati installer quits. Even if I try to install them manually xp says at the end that it couldnt finish and there is a problem with the hardware. Now the Omega drivers wont go back in either. I've done a full system clean of the old drivers and nothing is working...to make matters worse xp has now decided that my sata raid controller needs a driver installing everytime I boot....also the system will not post first time I hit the power button, it need reseting a couple of times....

I'm currently attatching some wings onto my pc case to see how far it will fly from 3 floors up...I'll get back to you with the result...

did u even bother to try the 7.7 drivers?

from the release notes of driver 7.9:
Caution: Installing the Catalyst software suite 7.8 or 7.9 on a system containing the ATI Radeon™ X1950 AGP series of product may result in either the desktop failing to be drawn properly or the operating system failing to boot. It is recommended to continue using Catalyst 7.7 for this product at this time.

odd that since the release notes do say there is a problem with drivers over version 7.7 for agp x1950 cards.

well it's obviously affecting the majority of people then for ati to recommend not using them. i must be special. :D

i had problems with the 7.5s - couldn't run at 1440x900 - they sent my monitor out of range. after looking around, lots of people had the same issue - and lots of people didn't. it's just random.... :p

I heard there was a problem with the 7.8's so I've stayed clear of those. Some people are using the 7.9's without trouble, so I thought I would give them a go......and wait for it.....they dont work. I'll stick with the 7.7's from now on.

Yes I did bother to read the notes on the 7.8's and the 7.9's so I guess its my fault I'm in a bit of a pickle now.

Have you ever had any trouble with the motherboard posting first go? I have to reset a few times before it will post..Its happened a few times with different psu's in the past.

no problems with the mobo for me. it's been solid as a rock. i got it 2nd hand but i've had it over 2 years and it's never missed a beat. running bios 1023.001 fwiw. :)

this is my 2nd psu - i had to ditch my old jeantech 400w when i got the x1950pro.
