Alex Rigopulos, the co-founder of developer Harmonix, has announced the Xbox 360 version of Rock Band will be bundled with a wired guitar, while the PS3 edition will be wireless.

The news may disappoint some, which, according to Rigopulos, is down to the fact it costs more to licence wireless technology on Microsoft's console.

"The cost of wireless technology on the Microsoft side is higher, and to be able to offer those bundles at a price point that would be reasonable for consumers it was necessary," said Rigopulos in an OXM podcast.

Rigopulos confirmed the microphone and drum kit will be wired across all versions, with the Xbox 360 version including a USB hub to allow all the devices to be connected simultaneously.

Rock Band will be published by Electronic Arts on PS3, Xbox 360 and PS2 early 2008.

Bit poor that really :(
Wasn't one of the recent Live updates to update for the wireless controller?

This MAY be a dumb question but will the Rock Band guitars be usable with GH3 and vice versa ?

I'm sure I read the Rock Band guitar will have extra buttons on it, you will be able to use a GH guitar but it won't have all the functionality.

I could be wrong but I'm positive that was what I read.

Doesn't bother me at all, not once have i thought damn i cant walk to the kicthen and get a snack while playing Hanger 18 on GH2

The lack of Megadeth on GH3 and Rock Band saddens me :(

I was hoping for some Tornado of Souls or Holy Wars action :(

So can the PS3 not have them all connected simultaneously?

Do you mean because of the USB hub? I presume the 360 version is coming with a USB hub as it needs 3 devices connected via USB, but it only has 2 USB connections at the front. But the PS2 has 1 wireless and 2 USB devices, but even then, the PS3 has 4 USB ports at the front so still wouldn't need the hub.

Though i may be picking you up wrong.

Cheers.

If thats the case does it not make sense (to anyone getting both Rock band and GH3) to just get the Rock Band Guitar ?

Im just planning ahead here - gonna need an extension to store all my accessories as it is !

Wasn't it just some extra buttons further down the neck for the solos?

If so, you'll be able to get away with using the normal buttons.
