8800GTX Installed.

Lmao. Just going to pop in and say thanks to Tom for selling me the 2900XT. It's going to a good home until I can join the Nvidia club in Feburary ;).

3DMark is pretty crap for comparing, just compare the Shader/HDR scores or whatever that's the best way to compare GPU performance.

I was getting about 5.1k on each last time I ran it a while ago.

Tom, how does that cooler manage not to pull down? I would have thought something that big would be pulling down hard on the mobo and itself.

I have the same cooler and with most coolers this size they come with a backplate that you fix on the back of the mobo which significantly reduces any strain on the mobo.

As per title just got it in. My god is this thing fast. Fired up two games which I had recently tested with the 2900.

BF2 using 8xSSAA on the 2900 was barely achieveable not very smooth anyway.

Just tried it with the GTX 100FPS almost constant (same settings). this is leaps and bounds over the 2900.

Then tried Far Cry with 8xSSAA which kills the 2900, yet again performance was ranging from 70-140FPS on the first level.

Performance like I said is just outstanding :D , going to do more comparisons soon.

Power :

IDLE: The GTX uses what seems a tad more power at idle, It seems around 10w. Coming in at 260w Idle.

LOAD: The GTX uses just over 20w Less than the 2900. Nice for my PSU anyway :p

Pictures..

2900 removed..

Hey tom,I have the same case+gfx but I really cant fit the GTX in the case, this locking mechanism is getting in the way and preventing it from beeing properly installed.I removed it and the GTX sits fine, but is there any way I can install it with the mechanism?

Yes take the mechanism off install the gtx fit the locking mechanism back on then lock the GTX in with it. you might have to take off one of the green locking things as one of them got in the way for me. But the card is totally secured solid :)

I never knew the GTX's were that hot at idle. I always thought it was between 50 - 60'C. I suppose with all the eye candy it's drawing it will work itself to death.
