Hi all ive found a job that i think suites me Poker card dealer yeaaa
got to call them back tomorrow for interveiw :)

Does anyone here play poker (not on the web) that might be able to give me a few pointers??

I play vista poker a fair bit and used to play gin rummy :D

i suppose you have to start somewhere, although if i were you i'd get practicing. For now stick to just making sure people have the right cards and you dont mess up when dealing .... go for the fancy pants dealing later ;)

My girlfriend used to be one, accept she hated it, long hours, poor pay and they weren't allowed to take tips.

She said if they were allowed to receive tips then it can be a very well paying job :)

moneys £6.00 ish an hour games start at 20:30 - 22:00 then if they want to play for realy money its home time about 00:00 - 04:00 but i love nights and kids are at school when i would be sleeping

You mean you've applied to be a poker dealer without actually knowing how to play poker? Me thinks a few players might get peeved off with you, lol.

Lets hope their training brings you up to scratch ;)

I think most dealers who do not use an auto-shuffler just spread the cards over the table and mix them all up, well thats what i've seen on tv anyway :). As others have said though you might want to learn the rules a little as i'm sure the dealer announces who wins the hand etc.

Casino I went to over the weekend (Palm Beach Casino on Berkeley Street in the west end if anyone knows it) they manual shuffle 4 deck packs by splitting and doing that flick (like a notepad) thing at least 8 times.

I would hazard a guess you'll need to be able to count quickly as a croupier. Punters get aggravated if you take your time.

Standard Vegas shuffle is wash the cards, 2x riffle shuffles, strip the cards then 1x riffle and cut the cards.

Had a pal who didnt know how to play poker, He got fully trained and knew it inside out within days. If i remember correctly the first 3-4days of your training will be playing cards againest each other with tutorials and they ll tell you all the tricks of the trade etc..

cool, would love the job myself

I would start practising at home.

Counting out a large number of chips and assigning their value, without looking like an amateur takes some work. Getting some chips might be a good idea.

It's a great way to improve your own poker game I hear :)

I applied for a job at the casino, didn't even get an interview. Best of luck although isn't it very poor money, unless you get into a top casino?
