Bit of a restless night for me, so decided to fiddle with my data server machine. I've noticed my room has been getting a little warmer recently (cheers housemates for leaving the radiators on ful blast for hours).

Any ways, just had a peep at the temps on my opty 165 and I'm a little shocked. I've removed the HSF, cleaned the CPU and HSF surface and reseated it with little change in temps.

Is this possibly too hot for it?. It will only reach these temps for at most 1 hour a day.

for 5 minutes orthos i reckon its too high.

drop the case side off and see if that makes any difference, what sort of air flow have you got in the case ?

Quite an excessive ammount. Lian-Li V2000 Plus with a Sythe kama bay cooler with a 12cm Zalman fan in it. I reversed the rear intake fan on the case so it pulls air out the back, I've also installed a pair of Zalman 8cm fans directly above the PSU.

I'll give it a try when I pop home. my guess is it will increase the hard drive temps a little. There's a metal devider that runs through the case, about 35% up from the base. There's a case ontake fan mounted on the front blowing cool air over the drives, the machine has 4 drives in it 2 towards the front and 2 behind it. The 80mm fans are on the back pulling air out the back along with the Tagan PSU.

I don't think I have. The cooler is quite anal to get on compared to mounting it on a 775 board. I've run out of thermal paste so no chance of doing it again.

I know a conroe would be ok at that temperature, I idle mine at 70 often for upto 24hr

I expect its fine tbh, people tend to be over cautious. Could you replace it ok ?
