x1950pro is the best AGP card, you can get a 512meg version for £111 in TWO.

That said, it's a lot to spend if he's upgrading by the end of the year - what card does he have at the moment?

I have a P4 rig still on AGP. Just recently purchased the above mentioned card from OcUk. Its a massive performance increase over my 6800GS. Just make sure you have the juice to run it. If your brother has an old P4 rig he could have an equally old PSU to go with it. 30A on the 12v rail should do it. Or 16A on 2x rails. My old psu was an Enermax 485w with 2 rails, 16A on each. I've heard people running these cards with a lot less though...All depends on the system.

After you get the card run 3dMark05 on default settings and you should get about 7000-8000 marks. Or 3dMark06 around the 4000-5000 marks area. If you get a low score around the 2000 mark it could be because of the PSU. NB...These are just average figures, please dont post that you have more...its probably due to your superior system and overclocking skills, along with the latest drivers etc etc etc....

Whats your 3dmark05/06 scores with that setup in your rig?

Do you mean me..? On stock settings for 3dmark and on the card:

3dMark05- 7500
3dMark06- 4300

Having some driver trouble at the moment and I'm using Omega 7 drivers.

yep thats about right, on stock speeds the x1950pro got 7500 in 3dm05 for me with a [email protected].
cpu is limiting factor in a lot of newer games for that system now.

Hmm. Not a huge jump if I went for an x1950Pro. I'd prob get 9000ish if I bought one and OC'ed it. Beginning to think a 8800GTS 320Mb is the only upgrade for me....

They dont overclock well IMO. The VRM's overheat.

I've replaced the stock cooler with a Zalman vf900c and also put heatsinks on the VRMs. When you replace the stock cooler with the zalman it leaves the VRM's bare!! Naughty....

I can now overclock my X1950pro AGP to 650Gpu and 1465Mem without a voltage increase. Temps are good around the 60 degree mark...I will benchmark this overclock and get back to you.
