New N95 Firmware

hard reset it and do not restore the backup from the nokia pc suit as it will brick your phone as its copying all the old firmware back to the new if u do u can just restore your contacts and add ** other data manualy

Can't seem to hard reset it. At the moment, all I have is the phone with a 'greyed out' Nokia logo on the screen.

Software updater doesn't recognise it and when I press the hard reset keys while turning on nothing happens.

Can't even turn the phone off without taking the battery out

Its never been there before fella ......
:)

Well of course not if you've just updated the firmware. Version 12 adds the 3.5g symbol so you know you are connected by HSDPA. You would have still been connected by HSDPA with version 11 firmware, you just wouldn't have known because the 3.5g symbol didn't exist in that firmware version.

Got my N95 yesterday from O2 was riddled with crap so i used the nemesis thing to change the product id to a EURO 1, then i just used nokia software updater to update to version 12, it is now more responsive, and smoother :) and all the O2 crap has gone as it is now unbranded yay!
What crap was it riddled with out of interest? My O2 N95 had an O2 theme, but that was it. It was easily changeable by anyone with an ounce of sense to one of the standard Nokia ones (not that the O2 theme caused any problem).

I'ma annoyed by two things on my n95, both related:

1) Ringtones I've added show up in music player (NO!)
2) Album artwork shows up in picture viewer (NO!)

Any help?

Nope :( Had to report it 'lost' and pay £30 excess on my insurance policy to get a new phone. If I had gone in and said I had cocked it up updating firmware I doubt my warranty would have been valid.

On a plus note, they gave me a grey backed one that is totally unbranded and works on any network instead of the one I had that was locked on orange with their firmware. Oh and another 1gb memcard as that was 'lost' with the other phone too so I didn't do too badly out of it :)

£30 isn't bad. I absolutely pooped myself earlier as I had exactly the same problem as you. I took the battery out, put it back in and retried it and thank God it worked.

did they give you a reconditioned one? or was it brand new?

just got my N95 back from nokia,

they have replaced the phone as my last n95 wouldnt update the firmware from v10 to v12.

now i have a new n95, with v11 fw doh!

im wondering ig i should update to v12 or stick with v11.

whats the general consensus? v12 good or not?

i got an N95 last week and have a few annoying problems. the first is my ring tone and text tone keeps getting lost and it defaults to the norm. have to eject the memory card and re-insert it. has happened twice now. im also having problems with the wireless, i tried to connect to the router so i entered my WPA code and it said it was wrong but wouldnt allow me to change it. then after half an hour i did and it allowed to to connect but its now saying WPA code is incorrect again. I also can no longer connect to the WAP either.

my phones on o2, *#0000# says

V11.0.026
17-04-07
RM-159
Nkia N95 (65.01)

is it worth me upgrading to V12 ?

Defo, would reccomend everyone who is having some bugs to do it!

I dunno, my Orange settings were all still there when I updated the firmware...

Oh wait, that reminds me, remember to BACK UP your phone using the Nokia PC Suite, it backs up settings too, which must have been why I was able to restore my Orange settings, despite flashing the phone.

Doohicky

Just got my new N95 from Orange at v11.

As am new to this flashing of phones and changing product code, so you have a numpty step-by-step guide on what to do to achieve the aim of v12 and faster phone?

Cheers

Paul

Bah, someone's already done that on some old N95 thread but it's a million pages long so here goes :)

  • Install the Nokia PC Suite that comes with the phone etc etc.
  • Update it to the latest version.
  • Connect phone, and back up your phone using Backup in Nokia PC Suite, tick all the boxes.
nssmcuerase.jpg

  • Connect your phone, click on Scan (on the right hand side) on the Nemesis window
  • And then click on Phone Info on the main toolbar.
  • Click on 'Read' somewhere on the right hand half of the window and it should pop up some random info, numbers etc. One of these is the Product Code and as you're on Orange it should say 0548170
  • Change that number to 0534841 and click on 'Write' (should be next to where you clicked 'Read'
  • Now close Nemesis and open the Nokia Software Updater (also in PC Suite), update it to the latest version if it prompts you.
  • Then it should recognise your phone and will show you what firmware you currently have and what firmware is available to update to, I'm sure you can find your way from there.
  • Remember to keep your phone charging throughout the update, having the battery die halfway through is not a good thing!
  • It will prompt you to restart your phone or something halfway through I think so just follow whatever it says.
  • Once that's done, boot up the phone, go to the Backup utility again and restore the contents of what you backed up earlier, these will be all the messaging, GPRS, internet settings etc and whatever SMS or photos etc you might have had on it.

I think that's it...

have made it to Now close Nemesis and open the Nokia Software Updater (also in PC Suite), update it to the latest version if it prompts you. but theres no software updater. do i have to register the pc suite software ?

i found the software updater file that i downloaded a few days ago and installed that but it's saying my phone is up todate but it has version 11.026 on it
