Once i've sorted the wifes new motor, i'm going to start looking around for a donor engine for my SJ.
I've already got an engine in the "old" 306 we've got, but it's the non-turbo version and i only want to fit an engine once! :)

Sooo, what do i hunt for (ebay, auctions, cheapo roadside sales, etc) ?

Cheers

Off the top of my head..

Citroen Xantia
Citroen Xsara
Citroen Berlingo
Citroen C15?
Whatever that Berlingo style van is called
Peugeot 206
Peugeot 306
Peugeot 406
Peugeot 605?
Peugeot 806

If you want an engine, there is bound to be a Xantia with utterly ruined suspension out there going for pennies.

Haha love it :D Foxopedia

The van versions of the 806 etc. - Fiat Scudo, Citroen Dispatch and Peugeot Expert.

My parents have a motorcaravan conversion of the Scudo with the N/A diesel :(.

Is there an aftermarket bellhousing to mate the XUD to the SJs gearbox? And more to the point, how long will the SJ transmission last with turbo diesel torque being pushed through it?

Just seen your thread on pug306 im interested in seeing the outcome, especially if you manage to fit the 306 shell as you mentioned

I wouldn't want to connect another engine to this poxy 4 speed box!

The running gear on the SJ is surprisingly strong, in the EU you used to be able to get an SJ/Samurai fitted with the pug 1.9 engine from the factory.

Unfortunately, that plan looked really good up to the point the sprog broke the screen. I'm still going to do all the measurements though ;)

I own a 205 XRDT and can confirm that there was never a XUD9 fitted to a 205 as standard - it was always the 1.8 litre one (XUD7 I think it's called). A few rovers came fitted with with XUD7's, so the later ones may have XUD9 in - not that I have seen any myself.

Some people have shoehorned XUD9's into 205 shells themselves tho, they just about fit. :)

When finding an XUD9, it's worth noting that xsara's have a FMIC, while the 306 has it's intercooler above the exhaust manifold, so you will have to find some way of getting air to it (bonnet scoop? :D).

Also, the pug equivalent of the Berlingo is the partner - the Royal mail used them quite a lot.

EDIT: What's an SJ?

EDIT 2: :o Some pug 405's had XUD9's in also.

Various catalogues I have at work list parts for the XUD9 fitted in 205's, FRAM, Coopers and QH all list filters and NGK list glow plugs for the 1.9 XUD9 in a 205.

Not to be trusted for accuracy. Last parts shop I was in listed a 1996-2000 E39 fitted with a 3.0 petrol engine. Infact actually it was the EBC Brakes catalouge..
