Just a quick heads up the new system software is now available, its a bit slow at the moment but on the SCEE site theres a link to donwload to USB and install from that. Think its just a fix the bugs from the last one, hopefully fixing some peoples network problems and I think some issues with Warhawk.

A bit off topic, But only mildly! Update 2.00 is probably not far off now, It looks to be closing in. Wonder what sort of larger updates we'll see.
May hear more about it at TGS next week, but with all the other announcements supposed to be happening the Sony conference will last the whole week lol.
What are the fixes, is that known?

You have to update if you want to sign in, ie use any online aspect of the console. Sounds forced to me.
I think its mandatory if you connect to the PSN network (thats what I have found going to the store at least) on any update, however just playing a game offline, or dvd/br and it doesnt even tell you the software needs upgrading - good compromise I think considering the time it can sometimes take to d/l and install some updates
think 2.0 will include Home etc (due Oct isnt it?)

Give them a break - all those in a month to 6 weeks (unless 2.0 is late of course , but I think thats unlikely to be the case, significantly anyway)
Quick question was downloading the NBA demo so decided to watch Casino royal on Blu Ray to burn some time, but when the blu ray starts it stops my download until I eject the movie???? Is that right I can play games while downloading
You can play games (offlline) or browse XMB view videos, pictures, music.
Background downloading stops when you play a game online or if you use Blu-ray.
I think DVDs can be played and downloads continue (can't remember).
