i dont mind paying though :)

just to get it done right :)
After all we spend all the $$ on the gear, i just want a pro to talk me through the bios settings and getting it up past post.

Check out the Asus website. I'm sure there'll be a Windows utility on there to allow you to update your BIOS on the fly.

yeah used it to update my P5N-E SLi and it worked a treat, just shut down any programs, disconnect from the net so u can switch you're virus software etc off then run it.

make sure you keep an eye on you're cpu temps, check what voltage you need for you're memory, usually has a range which should been on the manufacturers website.

Aren't these people wonderfull :) - If you still have the tenner going spare then you can pass it my way... not going to give you any advice though, just being greedy ;)

What ever you do....do not and a repeat do not!!!! update your bios through windows.Buy a cheap usb stick and save yourself a load of hassle with having to rma your board.Do a quick search of the forums and you will see what i mean, the asus windows update utility is a pile of pooh.

Seconded, windows bios updaters are a disasterous concept, you get loads of people stuffing up there systems through them. Borrow a mates floppy drive, or burn it onto a CD/buy a memory stick.

I had to use a usb key with my Asus Blitz as the bios is just over 2mb

Get with ages guys, if you have ditched the floppy drive then you must have a USB stick. £10 for a 1GB stick or a mashup mobo, your choice.

depends on experience, i may have been very fortunate, but i never had problems with it,i reckon part of the problem could be that people still leave background programs running and are still connected to the net :(

I agree
In fact there should be a sticky about this for the ASUS guys.

I must admit years ago when i had my Asus P4C800E i used the windows based method with no problems at all.I just put my overclock back to default settings & shut down any anti antivirus programs and it worked great. But nowadays with usb flash keys available so cheaply its not worth the risk of a bad flash through windows. The other problem is a lot of the asus boards are fitted with soldered bios chips,so if the flash should go bad the board has to go back to asus.

Will flashing a new BIOS mean I lose the RAID configuration? If so I guess I'll have to set them up again and reinstall windows?
