Mclaren might be in the poo big time [ANCIENT THREAD REVIVAL]

Hmmm, I'm probably defined as a Mclaren fan, but seeing as they've been found guilty - surely the drivers cannot take any points from this year because their performance is so very reliant on the performance of the cars...

It's a shame for the championship, but if the sporting code is contravened, then i guess this is a 'legitimate' punishment, ESPECIALLY if they have proved that Mclaren have used details garnered from Ferrari in their cars.

But as I say, this thing about the drivers being left in the title smacks of a vendetta against Dennis from Todt/Mosley - a shame if this is what's brought about this punishment for this verdict.

Lol if they had excluded them from both championships then everyone would have cried that Ferrari got what they wanted because of the FIA, now that they have left the drivers unaffected, its because of a vandetta against Dennis, as obviously none of the ferrari info helped mclaren.

Got to love mclaren fanboys :D:)

There is surely no hard evidence that the information contained therein was used in the design of the 2008 car (hard to say for definate regarding the 2007 since it is not a car that Mike Coughlan was directly responsible for if I recall) otherwise the would not be scrutinising it, McLaren would have their '08 designs scrapped.

Of course, it's entirely dependant on the contents.

I think the drivers should be DQed from this year's title :o

at least we still have a good end of season and there not to affected next year apart from money and pit lane.

God knows where they will find the fine money from though!
The Vodafone contract wouldnt even cover half of it.

Would you want it?

Id rather have it than a vindictive Ferrari one.
Its not Lewis's (or indeed Alonso's) fault at the end of the day, because he gets given a car which has been worked on by others, not him, he just gets in the car and drives it, so it cant be either of the drivers fault sorry.

what does that fine money go too ?

Max bloody Mosleys holiday fund!
The amount theyve been fined is just completely stupid. How are they expected to make any money with no points, and what are the sponsors going to do now.

Right....going to wade in now, given that the verdict seems to be finally confirmed. McLaren are out of the constructors championship, but are still in the drivers championship.

.

WHAT THE HELL KIND OF VERDICT IS THAT???!!!!????!!!

I knew this would happen. The team is guilty - that much has been decided. But since it's such a wonderful championship battle and since there is so much interest in it they've let the drivers continue the fight.

Is it just me, or is that verdict completely bat-**** insane?

Either they are guilty, and get booted out completely. Or they are innocent, and face no penalties at all. There is no middle ground. Except in the world of magical pixie dust that the FIA lives in of course.

The drivers do have a large role to play in off-season development so to say that their involvement was none is not entirely accurate. They would however have no actual engineering input, rather a drivers input on actual on track performance gains.

I can't imagine any of their sponsors wanting anything to do with McLaren come the 2008 season.

This is just stupid stupid stupid. The smug face of Jean Todt exiting the car is just so annoying as well - I wish they would stop repeating it.

Maclaren are going to have to try to clear their name surely, but the FIA must have some real evidence. This could be a long war, Mac won the first battle Ferrari the second, one all.

Obviously either way a complete disaster for F1
