Just got a nice shiny new Acre Aspire, but it's come bundled with a load of software that looks like it may be surplus to requirements.
I know a few people on here have laptops from Acer, but which of the pre-installed programmes did you keep and which did you get rid of.

Is any of it any use?

Cheers
Dan

I usually get rid of all the pre installed messengers ( they are usually out of date anyways), anti virus ( I hate Norton with a passion ) and usually any manufacturer specific stuff. My Asus for example came with loads of ASUS branded utilities that I just found pointless.

In fact I normally delete everything but Windows itself.

If it was for me then I'd probably do that, mess up everything in the process and sort out all the problems I've created, but this ifs for some one else so it need to be reliable when I hand it over on Saturday.
I've gotten rid of the Norton 90 day trial (I'll put avast on later) and the Yahoo tool bar has been uninstalled.

The one thing that stopped me from getting rid of everything is a little program called 'launch manager' which makes all the extra media buttons do stuff (open web, email etc)

I don't want to remove functionality from the laptop if I can help it.

I bought an Acer Aspire 5630 at the start of the year and formatted/re-partitioned the drive the same day I got it, and put on a fresh Windows. I can't stand all the crap that OEM machines have installed on them.

Did you get everything to work? Did you need to get any extra drivers?

You can get all the drivers from the Acer site easy enough (for the basics and touchpad), and they have all that Empowering software if you want it for the buttons.

Nortons was by far the worst application installed when I got it, so if you've replaced that it shouldn't be too bad if you don't want to go the whole hog and reformat.

I got an Aspire 7720 the other day to replace my old Aspire 5024. I think the only pre-installed software which I didn't remove was the launch manager and the various "management" entires in the add/remove programs list, (and hardware drivers and mobility plugin).

System seems fairly spritely just running normal Vista now with my normal apps put on it :)

I ended up reinstalling in the end.
Seems to be ok so far.
I just need to reinstall launcher manager to get the extra media buttons working and then I think I'll be happy :)

Seems like the majority of people (at least here any way) do the same or something similar.
There's too much bloat ware for my liking and while most folk wouldn't notice, I feel happier knowing that there's noting unneccessary on the machine.

Edit - My lappy (this is for my girlfriend) which is a packard Bell, had very little few 'exrtas' on it.
