Mclaren might be in the poo big time [ANCIENT THREAD REVIVAL]

Importantly though: Spa is this weekend, McLaren will be there fighting with Ferrari, nothing changes really. To the average armchair fan, the on track procession *cough* racing will not change with this decision.

Ferrari says it is 'satisfied' that the full story behind the spying controversy emerged in today's World Motor Sport Council hearing in Paris.

The FIA stripped McLaren-Mercedes of all its 2007 constructors' championship points, fined the team $100 million, and demanded that its 2008 design is presented for inspection before the start of next season.

"Ferrari acknowledges the decision of the FIA to sanction Vodafone McLaren Mercedes for its breach of Article 151c of the International Sporting Code," said a team statement.

"In light of new evidence, facts and behaviour of an extremely serious nature and grossly prejudicial to the interest of the sport have been further demonstrated.

"Ferrari is satisfied that the truth has now emerged."

The FIA has said that it will release more details of the evidence at the centre of the case tomorrow.

McLaren is due to respond to the outcome of the hearing in a press conference this evening.

Meh i dont understand one thing, how come Ferrari dont get punished for cheating with flexi floor?
Mclaren get handed dossier by ferrari employee and get penalised even though it didnt affect design of 2007 car?

Does this mean McLaren get the tiny shed of a garage, at the end of the pits next season? :p

Na the shed is still for Honda :P

meh this was added to the info on itv website

“The WMSC will receive a full technical report on the 2008 McLaren car and will take a decision at its December 2007 meeting as to what sanction, if any, will be imposed on the team for the 2008 season,” read the statement.

The FIA added that no McLaren representatives will be allowed on the podium should one of its drivers win any of the season's remaining races.

And it said the full reasons for the verdict will be issued tomorrow (Friday).

I'll give you a hint...

What further punishments are there going to be for Stepney and Coughlan? After everything they've done I'd say they need to be tied up behind the Mclarens/Ferraris and dragged round the track for a good couple (of hundred) laps.

It changes everything. I don't think there's that many f1 fans that aren't clued up to a reasonable degree. It's one of those sports you love or hate.

Oh and the average age in here is a lot higher than 15.

what was his last sentence? doesn't sound good :(

"We have got the best drivers and the best car and we intend to win the World Championship"

He said that with a jittery mouth (you know when you are about to cry) and then stopped and held the tears back.

It seems that McLaren has not acknowledged their "punishment" and appears that they intend to continue fighting for points as though nothing has changed. Good on 'em!

The guy has been dragged through the gutter this season. I hope he doesn't step down, and they go on to hammer the living **** out of Ferrari on the track.

Looks like the exact scenario that I thought would come to pass has done so.

1) A complete joke of a verdict has been handed down.
2) Ferrari fanboys from all over the world are foaming at the mouth saying that McLaren should have been excluded.
3) McLaren fanboys and others who detest even the mere mention of the name 'Ferrari' are saying that McLaren are completely innocent and that Ferrari should be banned.
4) I have a huge headache over the whole affair.

Congratulations to all involved in the mess that brought about this hearing. You've just turned a mostly unfunny joke of a sport into a completely unfunny joke of a sport. Well done. Y'all done good....

Some further thoughts:

1) I hope Ferrari are happy. Honestly. Because if they are truly satisfied with the outcome then a line can be drawn here.
2) I hope McLaren are happy. Honestly. Because the stupidity involved here is just immense. By all means, cheat. Build an illegal car. Nick technical secrets from your main rivals. Hell, do a 'Harvey Postlethwaite' and break into their garage and photograph their car in intimate detail. But, as I said on here before....

DON'T GET CAUGHT DOING IT!!!!!!!!!

Poor Ferrari fans, always getting the raw end of the deal... *cough*

:(

Well Ive not always been a Ferrari fan, have start recently though as Kimi moved there. Always been a Kimi fan though.

Always had a soft part for McLaren though. Ive always admire how they go about thier business and got things done. Ferrari have got about thier business in a total different way.

Couple of points I want to make out:

1) So McLaren are disqualified from this years constructors championships, I take it this means that they will finish on 0 points at the end of the season or do they finish with the 166 they have untill this day?

2) I think its a little harsh again on the FIA, making sure that when / if a McLaren driver wins a remaining race, no representitive from the team can stand on the podium with the driver(s). It always been good to see the team rep get a trophy for the team, it means something for the team itself. Take Ron for example in Monza, he got very emotional.

We don't know yet what amount of information they used, to get the conclusion they need to be fined & excluded, but remember spying is common in F1 though. Ideas are copied up and down the pitlane all the time, and that is only the aero bits you see the same.
