Fifa 08 demo (360)

grr, the put it on just as I'm going to bed as I have an early shift tomorrow :(

Ah well, either have to play it tomorrow or be (even more) zombie-like tomorrow :p

I think it's due to EA trying to make every game run at 60fps, tiger woods is the same, graphics aren't as good and it has loads of jaggies

I have just tried the fifa 08 demo on my 360 elite using hdmi and on the ps3 using the same tv an lg hd 32inch.
The graphics on the 360 are a little bit sharper but there is not a lot in it.
Its not a bad game but i think i will be waiting for pro evo.

It's good but I won't be buying it. I think it's too slow. People may say this is realistic but I don't get the same enjoyment out of PES.

It's kind of disappointing because EA seem to put a lot more work in than Konami. I still think EA's best sports franchise this year is NHL 08, it's much more fun to play imo.

Didnt work then lol :p

Half the time, especially during the cut scenes it dips to about 10-20

Love the demo, created a singapore account to get it this morning :P

been playing it for most of the night and its a big improvement on the previous titles. Pro ev has its work cut out IMO.

Same old rubbish as far as I'm concerned.

FIFA doesn't stand a chance until they decide to throw out the entire engine and start from scratch.

Pretty awful in my opinion, gameplay is far far too slow and unresponsive for my liking. Not 100% impressed with the graphics neither. Will give it a good run out to see if I enjoy it anymore, but I think its another PES year for me.

Throw out the engine again? this is the new one being tweeked from 07/uefa and I actually really like the 07 version it just needed a few things sorting like the shooting. Its a lot closer to PES than people give it credit for imho and I'm a PES fanboy at heart.

I recently got 07 and at first it felt unresponsive and just odd on the ball to me, but now I have played it a bit more I absolutely love the player movement. Once your used to it you can get some fantastic fluid runs on the go and turn on a sixpence to make defenders feel foolish.:)

My demo is still downloading :(

I could give you similarities between how this plays compared to FIFA 99/2000. No bad thing, except they're flaws in the first place. With FIFA it's always a slightly tweaked version of the previous game. Even Pro Evo has made bigger changes between games, the jump from 2 to 3 was huge and resulted in many people not liking it, myself included. Same with 4 to 5. The difference is while Pro Evo is tweaking what could already be described as near flawless games, EA are trying to polish a turd in FIFA.

I'd love FIFA to be good, it does some things right that Pro Evo may never do. Sadly, any resemblence to real football is not one of these things. I don't mind a footie game that's unrealistic (enjoyed Virtua Striker, will buy Sensi) but when a game tries to be realistic yet fails it stands out a mile. Player animations are a prime example - when viewed out of context they look ok, as soon as you see them actually in game they look silly, the movement of the players in FIFA are nothing like how it looks in real life. That's a bit of a problem when realism is the exact thing they're trying to achieve with all the motion capture and fancy graphics.

I'll probably try every version of FIFA as I always do, but it will take a complete overhaul for it to be worth playing.

This year has been a fantastic improvement. The entire game feels completely different to 07.

To me it seems like many people will bash this and say 'same old stuff' simply because it's Fifa and not even let themselves enjoy it or try to think it's an improvement.

Graphics seem a little worse than last years, although changing the camera angle to the main dynamic one they did last year and things seem the same basically.

Shooting feels a heck of a lot better. Need to work on my in game shooting though, finding it hard to hit the target when I'm not in the arena.

Much tougher than last years Fifa too, no more 70 yard runs on the ball and smashing home a shot from 30 years out.

I'm the second one to say this, but 07 on the 360 was a brand new engine written from scratch. Nothing was ported and nothing was adapted from others gens. The fact that 08 feels completely different to 07, whilst (as far as I know) it's the basic engine from 07 - must say they're no longer tweaking old versions. (edit: or simply adding one new feature, putting updated squads and releasing it anyway)

Sure, Megadrive, PS1,PS2 and now PC versions have been remake after remake after remake... but the 360 versions are completely different.

It felt very slow for me, the turns and through balls far too slow, kept getting closed down.

I would agree with that actually... I felt like I had maybe 3 seconds tops on the ball before I had to chuck it to someone else.

But again, is this EA's attempt at a more realistic Fifa?

On a side note, the graphics may be slightly worse to compensate for the fact that the game now has some 600+ teams, 15,000 players and so many leagues... compared to last years... what... 4 teams, 1 league and a rotting turnip on the sidelines.

I've seen it said before, it's 90% new code etc. Even if that were true it doesn't mean they didn't just stick to what they know.

I'll judge it based on how it plays for me and the last time I played a version that was substantially different to it's predecessor was 99, and that's only because RTWC 98 was excellent and 99 was not.

I really can't see this huge difference that people are claiming, seems like it's more a case of subtle differences that only experienced players will pick up on.

Might be worth downloading World Cup 06 again, I'm betting they're pretty close gameplay wise.

I cant quite put my finger on it but theres somthing im not too keen on with regards to gameplay, it does seem a bit unresponsive and i can seem to get far into the oppenents half at all (maybe im just rubbish at fifa?). Apart from that, the graphics almost look over polished so that they look unreal, dislike the framerate drops in the 'cut-scenes' too...
